basically I think they’ll sign Chelsea/Spurs tier players, but I’d be very surprised if bigger names turn out for Newcastle so soon.

Is there any update on what they plan to do with the remainder of the Championship, L1, L2 etc. I’m assuming no promotion means no relegation. Allocating champions league and europa spots would require playoffs too, right? What a pickle!

I’d like to see relegation playoffs. Maybe just bin off the bottom 10 all at once. Don’t think anyone would care.

Premier league compared to championship mate, apples and oranges tbh

Release Andy Carroll and resign him again

Didn’t know the site was doing this kind of thing. Interesting

Current wage bill is less than Bournemouth, Watford, Burnley…

But yeah there will be dodgy dealings no doubt about it

I’m not sure if it was on here, but someone mentioned how low their commercial revenue streams were and that a decade or so ago they were about on par with Spurs but are now 100m a year worse off or something mad. Presumably that can be improved pretty quickly if they employ the right people.

My dad was from Newcastle. He wasn’t a massive fan by any stretch, but they were always my second team as a kid. It really is a shame how they’ve been run.

enjoyed that. was he nice? did you chat about prime suspect?

It won’t be once the big signings come through though, which is the point.

its because they don’t really get sponsorship revenue from sports direct, is my understanding.

Presumably that’s due to all the advertising done on the cheap to Ashley’s brands eh? Selling the naming right of St James’ etc. Shirt sponsor is up for renewal as well, can imagine that will be a much bigger deal than we’ve had before

Liverpool have put a statement out criticising the mayor of Liverpool for essentially saying safety should come before football then.

It’s not often I agree with Joe Anderson, but he’s not wrong here

The strangest football-related Coronavirus thing is how the clubs known for being the shittest at PR have really come out of it quite well in terms of being extra proactive in a number of ways, and the clubs who pride themselves on being community-centric have properly Keystone Cops’d it.

Should probably mention that Jordan Henderson’s role in the player initiative and Andy Robertson’s sizeable donations to foodbanks both deserve respect, but as a club the way Liverpool have dealt with it compared to, say, United, who’ve spent years booting themselves up the arse in terms of publicity i just find…really weird. Maybe football clubs aren’t vehicles for socialism, or morally-redundant shell companies because of their owners, idk.
