I was aware but I dispute this idea that a strawberry isn’t a berry. What came first, the word strawberry or some botanist making up a scientific definition for the word berry that doesn’t match the real world usage of the term?

Yes, I don’t think scientists get to define words. That’s not how language works. They can borrow the word to classify a particular type of fruit but the word is commonly used to mean a small fruit, so that is its meaning.
