Thing is, what AQOS questions test and what Google is good at are (usually) different.

Most AQOS questions should be things where multiple answers come readily to mind: figuring out what’s the most obvious to the most people here is the challenge. I’ll google ‘kitchen appliances’ if I want to know where to buy them, not to know whether posters here think kettles or fridges are the more archetypal kitchen item.

Cases where you really know nothing should be the exception (and questions where a number of people know nothing are, I think, the weaker ones). If you need to google to at least have an answer, that seems fine to me: it’s more fun with more people involved, so I’d rather barriers not be created.

NV you’re the quizmaster, it’s your quiz now, break some balls. Decide what you want, put it in the rules and we’ll follow either way. You clearly won’t be able to suit everyone, but if people don’t like the rules, they don’t have to play.
Googling is permissible in the current rules, and has been for a long time, so I do it within the rules. If it’s taken out I won’t, simple as that. It really shouldn’t be any harder than that and it’s ridiculous that a bit of fun lighthearted quiz is causing so much angst.

Never realised it was such a bone of contention until last week

Absolutely this. Doing an absolutely cracking job, NV.

Considering 93% of people have voted that allowing googling doesn’t take the fun out of the game, I don’t think it is much of an issue for most people.

Ooof - The National then…

I mis-remembered Animal Collective but they were 2nd

Not having heard of a female Marvel character is not embarrassing. It’s probably more embarrassing if you can think of a legitimate answer. No shame it writing “dunno”, which is what I would’ve done if I hadn’t cheated.

Would’ve been a one horse race if OvertakenByTractors had allowed Radiohead. Don’t think there’s a single properly good band amongst all of the answers given.

Thanks but i find it embarrassing to be potentially the only one who doesn’t know a single answer to a question

Googling was a lot more of an issue when the fiendish single existed. If you’re stuck now, just accept your single point and suck it up, buttercup

You need to have more self-confidence!

I don’t think it’s unfair!

i mean i don’t see how it’s even debatable

basically your poll is terrible and you should feel bad about it

Pretty sure that literally evert point of view on this has been heard now and I would suggest that we leave it to the quizmaster to decide on what rules he wants to use for the quiz that he is organising. Going back and forth over this for 500 replies will absolutely not get us anywhere or change anyone’s mind

If it’s to find the most popular answer then Googling isn’t so bad, but I reckon you should always just go with your gut instinct on these things. I missed the last AQOS but I’ve always just gone with the first thing I think of…and don’t my record show it?

If you ever do the reverse (Pointless rules) then Googling is an absolute no-no.
