If you use Google and do well in the quiz, it’s still you who did well: Google might give you more choices, but knowing which are the good choices is the skill.

I would say the skill is twofold knowing the type of X and guessing which of those a group will think of.

If googling is allowed more people are going to go with the common answers. You get a more varied scoring and interesting game if people dont google.

It’s not a quiz then. If everyone googled every answer and all put the top google answer, we’d all get the same results.

Can we not just try a week without googling? Surely if you don’t know something, you have an educated guess? The questions aren’t that hard!

I think people being weird in their defense of being able to google. I just don’t get how that’s any fun?? The fun with quizzes and games is testing your own knowledge…or you’d get a list of top 20 possible answers to each question and you just have to pick an answer. Might as well do that if you’re gonna google.

And part of the fun of the quiz and not knowing certain things is you can drop down to 0 points when you could be super high up on everything else. That’s part of a quiz! It’s about knowledge as well as about guessing what everyone else would pick.

But if you supposedly know NOTHING about that question, you’re not using any knowledge to actually guess the top answer…cause you know nothing about it, right? . You’re just picking a top answer.

As i said upthread, i don’t find it fun to look like an idiot when i don’t know any answers to a question. It’s supposed to be fun, not embarrassing. I don’t see how it ruins anyone else’s fun to have the option to google if you don’t know something as part of the rules.

But that’s the same for any game or quiz.
It’s not embarrassing, no one is doing anything other than laughing with someone if they put something totally out there and get a low score, and for me, that’s part of the fun. It is meant to be fun and just going all in using google to make sure you get a top score isn’t really winning imo.

It really just does not make sense to me why anyone would need to win so badly that they’d google all the options? I find it so weird!

People are allowed to have opinions on things they participate in :woman_shrugging:

you can use some sort of intuition tho. like if the question was name a stop on the manchester metrolink and you google it, for some reason its saying besses o th barn as the top answer for me, but if you said besses then you wouldnt get the top answer (i think its saying that coz its the nearest station to me tbh) but you could figure out that people are more likely to say a stop in the city centre, but theres a bunch of them that could come top

shit example coz this question would never be used but you know what i mean noah take this as my submission

But then it’s not a quiz!!!
If you got the manchester metrolink question on a quiz and you didn’t know, you’d either leave it or put an educated guess in which case you’d get no points. or in this case, some other mug will put “oasis street” or some BS and you’d get some points and some lols.

It’s not just me saying googling isn’t really in the spirit of the game. It’s taking the fun out of it a bit cause it’s not knowledge based. I just thought googling wasn’t allowed when we first started playing this and just being told to shut up and get on with it or that i’m being weird or whatever just makes me not wanna play any more so I almost definitely won’t.

it’s hard to come up with questions for which google doesn’t help but it’s definitely possible - stuff like the anagrams from QUARANTINE and “kitchen appliance” are good examples of this.

Ok

  • Googling gives an unfair advantage
  • Googling doesn’t give an unfair advantage

I’m just seeing if other people agree or not.

didnt mean to pile on mate, dont stop playing just coz everyone else is cheating safetywink

No, you’re taking my words, putting them into a poll to humiliate me. I’m not into it.

Just the rules innit. Whoever sets it up defines the rules and everyone else can live with it or argue for something else or set up a different quiz.

Like I think the fiendish single rule was dead good and massively improves AQoS but its NV’s quiz and he isn’t doing it so :man_shrugging:

It’s less public in other quizzes if you get a wrong answer, and because generally there’s only one right answer you won’t be the only one to get it wrong. With aqos you’re quite conspicuous if you give a shit answer. I know none of the piss taking is meant nastily but I’m extremely shy and don’t like feeling singled out. I’m more comfortable giving a shit answer if it’s at least right and not like, the name of a baseball team that I’ve had to make up because I don’t know any

I don’t think this is possible, it gives you correct answers but it’s not much help telling you which to pick. Everyone who googles has said this - maybe try it next time and see! It’s a way to avoid embarrassing yourself on the odd question, not a strategy to win.
