Arctic Monkeys 2023

Love it, what a gorgeous song. Such a lovely sadness to it and don’t mind that it doesn’t really go anywhere because it just fits a mood

Well, this is very good. Very very good. I’m impressed.

Man, if I had realised that the band that were the MySpace band from the early 2000s that were associated with lads lads lads would ned up doing this as the grew, i’d have laughed at you.

Did listen to Crying Lightning again for the first time in years last night off the back of this, and had forgotten how good it was so might go back and do all of Humbug. Think it’s worth doing the same for Suck It and See, it’s a very different one to any of their others and I love it. There’s a lovely wistfulness to his vocals and the guitar work is beautiful. Very Smithsesque in places.

I like it as I said in the other thread definitely Richard Hawley vibe.

There are constant rumours that they are playing stadiums next summer. Quite funny if the rest of the album is like this and they are charging people £70 to see them play it.

yeah i liked that on first listen, his vocals are sounding really good. tranquility base for me is their best record and this feels like a continuation of that sound so all good by me.

That’s massive isn’t it? A load of their fans on the twitter got a bit excited that they might not get number 1 cause of Taylor Swift.

Something quite amazing that they are still getting the figures at this point.

Yeah I love that it’s still a continuation of that sound but far enough removed to clearly define a line in the sand from it. I loved TBHC but glad that the sound has become more immediate again

They’ve fully crossed generations now. Every 18 year old knows them so they have the 40 year olds and the 20 year olds and everyone in between

I think if you put riffs and tunes on records AND top them with a unique lyrical style then that has huge longevity and a place in people’s hearts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ARCTIC MONKEYS WIL ENGAGE IN NO DIGITAL MARKETING FOR THE NEW ALBUM CYCLE

I do wonder how they will manage their setlists from now on - they have only played a maximum of 2 songs from TBHC on their recent live shows, with AM still dominating the setlist. I know they are more festival friendly but I feel the band have moved so far away from AM that I wonder if they (Turner in particular) resent it at all. He seems to get a bit annoyed with the fandom at times

The old anti-marketing marketing trick

Really liking the new track. I had a funny journey with this lot. When the debut dropped I was totally put off by the hype, didn’t really like Dancefloor and pretty much ignored them completely for a few years. Then a mate made me a comp after Suck It and See came out and that swung me round completely, loved it and went back through the first few albums. Still not fussed about a lot of the debut, but everything after that is varying degrees of excellent. I’d probably go Suck It > Nightmare > TBH&C > Humbug > AM > Whatever People Say. A very good band imo.

Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino >>> Suck It and See > AM > Humbug > Favourite Worst Nightmare > Whatever People Say I Am…

(And I really like the first couple, just think Turner’s evolution is pretty stunning)

Favourite Worst Nightmare → Whatever People Say I Am → Suck It And See → Humbug → Tranquillity Base ————————-> AM

Sorry but AM is half an albums worth of really, really good songs and half the worst stuff they’ve put out. Have genuine disdain for R U Mine and Snap Out Of It. It has aged absolutely terribly. On the flip of that Suck It and See has aged really well.

Still think that Submarine is overall the most consistent and best thing Turner has done

Ah, this new song is really great. It’s astonishing how they’ve grown, although I listened to “Whatever People Say I Am…” yesterday and they were already stupidly talented as teenagers.

Whatever… > SIAS > Humbug=TBHC=AM=FWN, but IMHO (slightly weird musical repetition of AM aside) they’ve basically not put out a bad album.

Suck it and See has some seriously lovely songs on it, doesn’t it?
