Yeah, I was very confident about Bradford having no river, having grown up there. Although the name apparently originally meant “broad ford”, because it was a crossing place over the Bradford Beck. Though, to call Bradford Beck a river would be massively overstating it.

The whole of the centre of Atlanta is riverless, but the city is a lot bigger and has expanded north to the river there.

I mean I think due to the fact that water is awkard to transport and is necessary for human survival it’s going to be hard to find anywhere that people have settled for a long period and is developed that isn’t near any source of water will be near impossible.

We do actualy - the River Rea.

It looks like your picture was taken at the bottom of Bradford Street (??) The work being done there at the moment (opposite the coach station) involves reopening the culverts which have covered it up. Birmingham was actually founded on the rivers banks.

We’ve also got more canals than Venic so the sneerers should desist!

I’ve not been to Munich, but Hamburg I know is quite spread out, it once upon a time was loads of towns and villages (and islands!) kinda near each other which later formed into a major city (also it’s the major shipping port in Germany and where Airbus is so loads of people live there for that) so I think that’s kinda what puts it over the edge.
