Whatsapps got so inside my brain that on the occasions I get an old-fashioned SMS I still donā€™t read it straight away a lot of the time so the other person doesnā€™t get a read receipt. But that function doesnā€™t apply to the simple SMS!

We should, as a society, all just commit to reading and replying to things immediately, regardless of whether youā€™re in an emergency or not.

According to the settings description you always have read receipts for group chats, so my advice is to get a burner for a second WhatsApp and include that in a group convo with the subject then read on that and wait for blue ticks all round.
