Cliff has deliberately arrived early so he can talk to Sandra alone, hmmm interesting.
Michael appears and acts in a way that suggests that he is annoyed by Cliff’s arrival before him. Both obviously fancy Sandra.

Not sure how Sandra feels, possibly quite likes Cliff, I see no other reason that anyone would enjoy talking about Sweden.

Why did Cliff go to Sweden? From his name I might guess that he’s in his 40s at least, and perhaps of a working class background but now finacially well off. He probably went to Sweden to look at a factory or something, I doubt it was really a holiday, industrial espionage more likely. Stealing Volvos secrets

Ben Ambridge is hosting a dinner party. Cliff arrives first and the two enjoy talking about his recent holiday to Sweden. But then Michael turns up. He does nothing but continuously hum the theme tune to The Archers. Ben Ambridge is a bit annoyed by this, but is also secretly pleased that this is comfortably enough material for his weekly half-arsed psychology column in the Guardian.

Brian and Craig are on a blind date. Things have been going well and they move on from the bar to a restaurant.
It’s a quiet Wednesday night and they don’t have a reservation, Craig requests a table for 2 and the waiter takes them to the table. “This will do fine” Craig responds to the waiters query if the table is ok.
Suddenly Brian falls ill and throws up all over himself.

The answer is that Brian has a phobia of sitting near the toilets in a restaurant (as most normal people do). He actually mentioned this earlier in the evening to Craig, and Craig, subconsciously, did acknowledge and remember this fact and was actually self-sabotaging the date, and yet again, his own happiness, as he feels he deserves to be alone due to deep rooted psychological issues stemming from a dysfunctional childhood. Or Brian was really, really hammered. We won’t ever truly know, but then, do we ever really know anyone? makeuthink
