Kind of an antithesis of this thread, and indeed running contrary to the entire “I preferred their earlier stuff” spirit of DiS, what are examples of artists biggest songs which are also in your opinion their strongest?
Inspired by listening to Built to Spill, where Carry the Zero is so obviously their best song and quite rightly their most popular.
Love pretty much all of Arab Strap’s stuff for a variety of reasons, but if I could only listen to one of theirs it would probably be First Big Weekend.
Sabotage - Beastie Boys
Chicago - Sufjan Stevens (Spotify stats don’t bear this out as being his biggest, but I’d still say it’s his signature song)
Waiting Room - Fugazi
Built to Spill - Carry the Zero
Arab Strap - First Big Weekend
Beastie Boys - Sabotage (but happy to be told I’m wrong with this one)
Sufjan Stevens - Chicago
Fugazi - Waiting Room
Loads of better Fugazi songs than Waiting Room, however it is the only one of theirs that stands to reason as to why its their most popular song if that makes sense. Basically most justified but not best
Granted I just mean on that album, which is why I suggested it on the prior thread, its obviously better than everything else they put out (except maybe Rather Be Dead)
