Artists you love one album from but have never listened to any of their other stuff

Am I the only one who does this? Years ago, when I did a brief stint doing music writing for my student newspaper, I got a review copy of Richmond Fontaine’s We Used to Think the Freeway Sounded Like a River (which I think is an EP) and I love it and have listened to it on and off for years, yet I’ve never bothered to try anything else by them. Do you have anything like this?

(Also, where to start with Richmond Fontaine I guess)

Yes, I’m quite bad for this - I still haven’t listened to any of Adrianne Lenker’s other albums, including Big Thief, but I love everything about abyskiss, and have played it solidly for almost a year.

Also Junior Boys, I’ve only ever really listened to Big Black Coat, but I have loved and played it for years, even though I know it’s not one of their classics.

I guess it’s just the fear of watering down an experience - it’s almost as if it would lessen the appreciation of an album by diving any deeper! See also: seeing something live, and it just not having the same magic as the recording.

Hefner - The Fidelity Wars. I’ve heard some of their other stuff but I own just the one album. It’s a great album though.

Sebadoh - Bakesale

actually i think i did listen to another by them once and it wasn’t as good, but i have always meant to dive a bit further into their stuff and never have

there are lots of bands i only own one album by but in most cases i’ll get round to Spotifying another one eventually

The only other one worth bothering with is We Love the City. Hayman knocked it out of the park with that pair and hasn’t really got anywhere near either ever since.

At the Drive-In’s Relationship I’d Command is such at ATD of an album, can’t imagine anything else they did before it is worth spending any time on.

Listened to this a LOT when it came out…

…but have never listened to another one of their albums. There’s a DiSer who is a mega fan who might be able to recommend what else in their back catalogue is worthwhile - anyone remember who that would be?

The Cribs - Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever
The Clash - London Calling
Wu Tang Clan - Enter the 36 Chambers
Denzel Curry - TA13OO
Little Simz - Grey Area
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

Have heard a few other tracks from most of these but nothing close to a full album

Edit: Re-reading the title, I guess that means I have heard other stuff from them. Ah well

In/Casino/Out and the Vaya ep both want to have a word.

Oh man I do this all the time.

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
Cornershop - Handcream for a Generation
Pixies - Doolittle
Julia Holter - Have You In My Wilderness
The Blue Nile - Hats

Love all of these dearly, but never heard any other albums by any of them

The weirdest one was where I got obsessed with the second Embrace album, Drawn From Memory, despite never having heard their first album.

I’ve even got a couple of their other albums. Just never listened to them. No need, Doolittle’s perfect.

their whole original run was perfect imo
(not the new albums though)
