Socks are super cute!

Is this for the sleeves of So Faded? Personally I would use 12” circs especially if you are alternating skeins for the fade. Next preference would be magic loop (tin can Knit’s have a good tutorial or there are loads on YouTube). If you want to use dpns I would go for 20cm needles, longer than you are using for socks.

I would very much like to learn how to knit!
I’m going to the knitting and stitching show this weekend with my mum so might pick some bits up!

thank you

It’s for any / all of it I think - I’ve only ever used DPNs though. and I’m getting confused about the difference between a circular needle and magic loop - need a google session i think!

I knit every day so happy to help/suggest sources. Have a fab time at Ally Pally but I it’s really much better for much stitchers than knitters. The knitting offer Is, with one or two exceptions a lot if acrylic. Actual wool is scarce. There are now loads of really good fibre/knitting/yarn festivals in the Uk with loads of indie dyers, small producers and breed specific wool. Unravel at Farnham maltings is in February but there are tonnes of them.

You will need long circs for the body which is knot ‘in the round’ it is dead easy. Good brands are chiagoo, hiya hiya or knit pro if you prefer wood. Don’t get those Pony ones they sell in loads of British craft shops and John Lewis. The joint between the needle and the cable is horrible and they’ll drive you mad.

Also feel free to DM me.

I recently finished a couple of jumpers and a big shawl/scarf thing. I’m pleased with the shawl thing because it’s the first thing I’ve made from my own handspun. What is everyone else working on?

Love these, especially the shawl!

I currently having to work on my outfit for my Studio 54 party so I have 5 metres of rose gold sequin fabric coming which i’m gonna make it into a kimono jacket

That sounds amazing but also really tricky to sew. With the benefit of hindsight I can’t believe the number of hours my mum spent sewing sequins on my dancing costumes.

Just bought this embroidery pattern/instructions to do on a long plane journey. It looks so amazing! Can’t wait to try it.

Oh I really like that! Have wanted to try embroidery for a while but a lot of the kits seems to be either really vile or really expensive and difficult. How do you transfer the pattern to fabric?

I’ve been really getting into hand-tool woodworking lately, recently converted our basement into a little workshop.

I do mostly digital character design/illustration for work, so the switch to an ‘analog’ medium like this has been wonderful.

attention people who know things about sewing and things:

I have some fabric patches I’d like to attach to some fairly heavyweight material (1000D cordura). I am fucking awful at sewing, and was thinking of attaching them using Copydex or something similar. The thing I’m attaching them to will never go through the wash or anything (it’s a bag which attaches to a bike) - will this work?

Worst case scenario is probably that it doesn’t hold well and comes off after a while. Worth a shot.

Hello crafting type people.

Been asked by Mrs Z to see what you think of her latest papercrafts. She’s thinking of setting up an etsy shop or something where people can download templates to print/cut out/assemble (no glue or tape required) themselves but is lacking confidence in them at the moment.

I think they’re brilliant and would personally buy some for Dr Mrs Epimer’s birthday next month.

These are really cool, your wife is so talented! I particularly like the contrasting colours.

Am I right in saying these are symbolising Chinese year of…?

They’re not - although they’re definitely influenced by Asian culture. She’s just picked an animal for each letter of the alphabet and then designed stuff around them. Neither of us had twigged a potential link to the Chinese Zodiac!
