If you’re looking to get into flying I would recommend paying a visit to a gliding club and going up for a few trial flights. Much much cheaper than going for a PPL. Also super satisfying once you can use thermals/ridges to stay up (it’s really not that hard). I wanted to fulfil a lifelong ambition of being able to fly and was able to go solo in about 6 months of gliding most weekends with one week-long gliding holiday/course thrown in. It’s a very rewarding sport but also very time consuming as you’re expected to spend at least half a day on the airfield helping out with the operations

dogs seem to be a common theme here. here are my two main ATDs, Archie and Meow (that was her registered name).

Archie was a fucking cheeky chappy, and also the most intelligent dog I’ve ever met. When we left him at my gran’s to go on holiday, he would apparently get all restless and excited when he heard one of the family names mentioned. Don’t think I’ll ever have another dog like him. He died in 2010. Always the best dog.

We got Meow in 96 and she died in 2011. Spent the first half of her life virtually feral, enjoying the field we lived next to. The second half was spent inside being an all round bossy so and so, and for some reason took a shine to me which is why I love cats now. Slept on my bed for years (I think I sleep in the position I do because of this) and was mega loveable but hated strangers. She also completely dominated Archie and would take absolutely no shit. Towards the end, they were best mates and slept together like this:

Also it might be worth checking out if there are any microlight clubs near you. Most schools have an Ikarus C42 now which doesn’t even look like a microlight. I think you’ll be surprised how far they’ve come since 12 years ago. Also cheaper and fewer hours to NPPL(M)

Icarus, what a choice of name

This thread is kind of sad

Dunno. Nothing really
Cheers

how come?

a lot of unfulfilled desires I guess

despite all contrary evidence.

Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos is an ATD if ATDs could be song and what an opening line it has.

Would love to have a go in a glider actually, looks like it could be a lot of fun but quite tricky at the same time, although I suppose you’d soon pick it up.

It’s not really something I’ll be sorting out any time soon anyway, could always go for a trial lesson on the old gliding though.

We had a cat that didn’t bother with us for 10 years and then started feeling old and enjoyed the heat of the house. It was quite nice of her to tolerate us! A good cat all round :slightly_smiling_face:

Open a micropub. This has been discussed numerous times with a director at work about going into partnership together. But we’ve still not done it.

Or work part time and get by. I’m aiming towards this by overpaying the mortgage. Then get a dog.

love cats for that reason. So much more humanlike than dogs in many ways.

I’ve been up in a glider with a mate, it was great fun. We flew over my house. Would love to do it myself and I live near Kenley aerodrome, so could easily do something about it.

This reminds me, opening a cattery would be pretty great.

Be a great dad.
