This is slowly turning me into such a weenie. I can really see how it all starts… So I settled on Denon amp and q acoustic speakers. Great. Then I read a bit and realised I should also get stands because… I dunno… reasons. Now I’ve been mostly playing music via the built in Bluetooth which frankly sounds great to me. Better than any music thing I’ve ever owned. My ears are rubbish so it’s not really going to get any better. But I know that Bluetooth involves compression. So perhaps I should look at some WiFi streaming and subscribe to one of the premium lossless services to get the most out of the amp and speakers? There’s a decently reviewed yamaha device I’ve seen but that doesn’t have digital output, you can also still get the (discontinued) chromecast audio 2nd for about 60 quid which does have digital output so the question is “is the dac built into my denon better than the dac in the yamaha?”. TWO WEEKS AGO I HADN’T EVEN HEARD OF A “DAC” AND I WAS HAPPY BLUETOOTHING MUSIC TO A CHEAP ANKER SPEAKER.
mmmm Denon
Spend the money on the speakers and drive them with as much juice as you can afford.
I’m selling my flat panel speakers at the moment but they need 180w to really go in. Can link if you like. Idk Hifi will kill you, i’m finally happy with mine but it’s been 10 years Of work. My records do sound amazing though.
Often just play albums out of my phone speaker.
Sounds fine.
YES BAM
got some bangin’ speakers from @anon73286315 and then purchased the cheap amp and cables he recommended
sounds absolutely great
…do want to add a subwoofer though, it’s really noticeable that my housemate has way more low end on his set up than me
With regard to speakers how much is ‘not too much’?
Haha amazing. And yes audiphiles have the most vanilla taste in music. It’s kind of a waste when you think about it. Imagine having top-of-the-line, state-of-the-art equipment and using it to listen to…Adele
thinking of crowdfunding a digital music player that only plays real media audio files
I do not believe you’d never heard of a DAC.
Presume you just put your Sonos on a table
You can do a free trial on the Tidal and Qobuz hires streaming to see if you can hear any difference. Probably just connect your smartphone directly to the amp dac to test it out. If you can tell a difference like that then looking at a better dac might be the next iteration?
Qobuz has just reduced the cost of hires by £10 to £15 per month but it may be a limited offer.
Really tempted by dem Nura Headphones, had a go on my mate’s and they are sick
This is just pure gold through and through
I know it’s a recording device but I do enjoy the opening credits of Mindhunter
I think I just really like the buttons
So I dunno, get something with good buttons
