I’ve got him down as a good Scouse man of the people remainer.

Proper tankies who thinks Marxism is an outright science and his words are infallible/incapable of ageing badly do my loaf in

oh yeah and ironically, thinking:

is the least marxist position to take on the big lad himself!

ikr but sorry if I don’t believe in Hegelian phenomenology, he was right about tons of stuff but inevitability is quite obviously a stupid, stupid thing to hedge bets on

question to those clicking socialist rather than social democrat

i’m taking socialist in this poll to mean that you do you not support private business at all

with social democrats believing that private businesses are ok as long as they’re taxed and regulated and that certain industries (rail, energy, large amounts of housing) should be outside the private sector

or are you using the word socialist to just mean that you support some things being taken out out of private ownership (ie. the same as i define being a social democrat)

Think I might be who you intended to cite, and I for one am delighted that you managed to confuse me with someone who has the faintest clue as to what is going on!

I don’t think anyone else, apart from Daily Telegraph leader writers, thinks the same.

surely the main division is seizing the means of production, more significant redistribution of wealth & profits

Engels considered the Materialist Conception Of History to be a scientific development akin to Darwin’s theory of evolution.

I think Aaron Bastani would agree, but few others.

I don’t know much about politics but I am weirdly optimistic about Corbyn, feel like when he is on the campaign trail he comes across well and the attacks on him start to have the opposite effect, have any other politicians ever had people chant their name, feel like it could just all come together and catch on

I kinda agree that capitalism’s flaws will always lead it closer to imploding but that doesn’t necessarily mean socialism’s going to come out of it.

if no deal happens, has any other county done anything comparable in terms of self inflicted damage?

EDIT Sorry, not sure what I was thinking here

jesus mate wind it in

Well part of the frustration with analysing Marx is that he didn’t theorise on what ‘Communism’ would actually look like. Although his central motivation was the ultimate emancipation of humanity so we can at least assume his preferred end state wasn’t totalitarianism.

Yeah, sorry, regretted that immediately

Just a worker’s uprising using leftover/shared value as a means of redistributing wealth or resources according to need isn’t it

Socialism would mean private businesses exist but as worker co-operatives with equal profit sharing rather than as individually owned hegemonies. This allows for competition within industries but prevents CEOs getting rich from the exploitation of their workforce.
