He’s not a Remainer but his policy is the only way to get Remain ergo he could be called a remainer

believe he’s stated he supports Remain against Tory Brexit.

would obviously try to negotiate a soft brexit deal to respect the result if they get into power and have said their support in a subsequent referendum would depend on the quality of the deal they end up with, iirc

By this logic he’s also not a Brexiteer

That’s clearly meant to make a point in reference to my posts. Sure, I’ll bite.

to constantly pump out disinformation

Disinformation? Do you have a link to the bit where Corbyn has decided he’s not up for a Brexit any more? No. You don’t. Because he is.

to attack Labour

Cry me a river. I’ve said I support Corbyn’s proposal. That’s a pretty pissweak form of attack.

it only needs to feed a sense of identity rather than be true

Nope.

similar dynamic to post-indyref Scottish politics

I’m glad you’ve brought that up, actually. Cos I was going to refer to how this capital R lower case r distinction seems to be ironic when set against the chat we had on here recently where done were effectively saying that independence for Scotland is unavoidably Nationalism with a capital N, and that’s basically nothing less than racism.

Just think it is a very Lib Dem line to label anyone who isn’t saying ‘revoke and pretend it just never happened’ is a full scale Brexiteer and therefore The Enemy

Has he? If so, that’s passed by. That’s something, if there’s a source. Under what circumstances would he need to choose between Remain v Tory Brexit? What even is Tory Brexit?

  • This is shaping up to be an informative and illuminating discussion
  • No
  • No and quite possibly it’s going to end up with someone getting pointlessly banned or self-banning.

And I think it very something to add ‘pretend it just never happened’ as an unnecessary automatic suffix to ‘revoke’.

There’s a million things you could do after revoking that aren’t ‘pretend it just never happened’.

I think Corbyn distrusts the EU as a neoliberal institution but he’s absolutely a democrat first and foremost, his position was decided by Labour members and he wholeheartedly wants to bring that forward, and that’s just another vote between brexiting with a new deal (closer to the EU than May’s) v Remaining entirely. If there’s more passionate Remain politicians they’ll be able to campaign for it in the run up.

Don’t get why you’d beef with him for that.

I’ve no beef with that. As I’ve said, he can campaign against Remain in this proposed referendum if that’s his bag.

Brexit as negotiated by the Tories

“Negotiated” is a bit charitable isn’t it?

Which Tories, though?

Cos he was never Remain vs May’s withdrawal agreement, right?

And I’ve literally no recollection of him ever saying he’s up for supporting Remain anyway (if he has, fair enough).

My understanding is that it’s always been about him being being able to do a better Brexit than the Tories, rather than not doing one at all.

Basically he just wants to point at things and nationalise them

nationalise? Or Nationalise?

:wink::wink::wink:

srs tho he wants rid of rules against state aid for industry which the single market will always prevent
which is his prerogative tbfh, he’s still going forward with a second ref/election strategy as his party has indicated him to do

Here’s an article referring to supporting Remain against No Deal

It may have been McDonnell at the Fringe who mentioned Remain over Tory Brexit but can’t have a proper look for sources at work atm
