Whereabouts are you staying?

I was around 6th Street. It’s where a lot of the bars are. Very good during the day and non-weekend evenings. On Friday and Saturday it gets pedestrianized and gets all a bit like Camden High Street. A bit rubbish. Apart from that I loved Austin.

Oh, go to Spiderhouse. It’s a bar and restaurant. All laid back. 100% hipster type of place but the decor is great and a nice place to hang around and take it easy.

Breakfast tacos :+1:

Torchys tacos for breakfast tacos. If you like smoked meats john muellers is great, if still open (small food truck) a little off the beaten path but still in austin. Fav restaurant is Salt and Time, little bit on the pricey side but out of this world. If your into craft beers or breweries in the middle of a field on the outskirts of Austin, check out Jester King. Tons to do in Austin, one of the best cities in the United States, enjoy your trip!

We only found it on our last day cause we had moved airbnbs (we were staying in a caravan in someones garden then had one night at a huge house with a couple of irish guys who were watching some F1 racing or something that was on whilst we were there??) and that was literally right around the corner

We stayed in North Loop here for the rest of the time and the guy had bikes we rode around on for days  Love riding around places with ma bambino

Austin:

Counter cafe is great, would go all the way back to Austin to have their biscuits and gravy again.

Voodoo Donut, obvs.

The bar at the Driskel Hotel if you want to have some classy drinks. Whisler’s in East Austin is amazing if you want some less classy drinks.

The Mexican food is amazing, as is the barbecue but be prepared to queue if you want to go somewhere like Franklin’s or Stubb’s. I’m sure I did some stuff there that wasn’t eating or drinking but I don’t remember a lot of it.

San Antonio is nice, was only there overnight but it’s surprisingly walkable for an American city. There’s an amazing bar in the Riverwalk called Esquires. The Alamo is dead boring though.

Go to a bar and do line dancing.

Bats

Record shops

This is vague because I was drunk, but there’s (was) a scene of bars in a residential area (I think) east of the city, that’s pretty cool.

Still there, that’s where Whisler’s is. Went to a few places there, really liked Stay Gold as well, good crowd of hipster transplants and Texans in massive hats.

Really wanted to visit this place but it was too far out and I didn’t have a car

Oh yeah! Voodoo Donuts.

I ordered one called Ol’ Dirty Bastard purely so that I could say it in my dull received pronunciation accent.

Cheers everyone! Just staying in a business hotel in South Austin for the wedding but we’ve got a nice hipster place lined up near Zilker Park later, and somewhere on the Riverwalk in San Antonio.

I remember reading online somewhere before I went that everyone dresses like it’s 1991.

I went a couple of years ago and dressed as “normal”; DMs, trousers and a band t-shirt on my first night. I felt overdressed. That online piece was spot on. I put on a pair of shorts, Chas and Dave t-shirt (really) and converse on. Sorted.

My dream holiday. I start feeling emotional just thinking about the place. (Never been)

I had one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever eaten in austin
rsz_perrysfamousporkchop
Perrys pork chop. It’s a about 1kg of meat. Had to lie down after it.

If your feeling a low key movie night, you need to check out the Alamo Drafthouse. They are serious about their film there and its a beautiful theater. Known for once kicking Madonna out and banning her for life for being on her cell phone during a film.

Heard nothing but good things about Austin. Are you on a road trip? Where else are you headed?

We came for the wedding of a friend who got married to a Texan girl last weekend, since then we’ve been to San Antonio and the countryside west of Austin which was all really cool. Tomorrow’s our last full day here, there’s a storm brewing atm so I’m not sure how much we’ll be able to do. Austin is great, so much good food around and it’s pretty walkable if you can avoid the heat.

Bit gutted that Thundercat is playing here tonight and I only noticed once it’d sold out, plus the TV isn’t keen anyway :slightly_frowning_face:
