Autumn Brexit Thread - The Yellowing

Farage, at least, is out of the way - he seems to have a lower mainstream profile lately (since he’s not part of the Tory drama), and he’s even been flanked in his own racist party by bigger racist ‘Tommy Robinson’. He’ll be on I’m A Celebrity before long I reckon.

Johnson still gets all the fawning press coverage he wants, but it does feel to me that his time has passed. If May’s plan was to neuter him and Davis by giving them real jobs and letting them fail publicly, I’d say it worked, but that’d be giving her far too much credit

Hmm, that’s not quite how things work. The financial crisis, for example, wasn’t business intentionally fucking over the economy to push politics to the right, it was a lack of regulation and accountability in banking as a result of free market economic policies. What business will continue to do is use lobbying and propaganda to promote a right wing agenda in the media. This is something that basically every non-authoritarian country has to deal with, better educate its citizens on, and better regulate the media to ensure a healthy public sphere and a functioning democracy

I’ll take your word for it, sounds like you’re smarter than me

Good question, there’s quite a few different opinions on this but as a campaign we’re broadly focused on four main points. Firstly it gives us time for a general election without the risk of crashing out of the EU without a deal, it also gives the EU citizens in the UK the ability to participate in the European elections.

Additionally it allows us to have a more nuanced conversation about what kind of deal we might actually want with all the facts on the table, which, finally, we believe will help the country reconcile some of the differences that have erupted since the referendum.

This guy will use any situation as an opportunity to attack Corbyn, even if it involves starting an easily-refuted lie:

see this guy a lot in these DiS threads, is it a troll account or a real person?

they’re smarter and more educated than me though and want to uphold a logical set of laws etc

This was pretty good all round, but had good examples of lawyers being really dumb.

Blimey John McDonnell actually said them. He said the words!

There’s an awful lot still on John’s table. I do hope he still has room for his coffee mug.

And room for all of that cake he is both having and eating clearly!!

(Just one for the Heavy Handed Satire thread chaps, not a serious point)

It’s a quid pro quo. They’re allowed to get their knickers in a twist about putting the words “people” and “vote” near each other and the trade off is that we get to laugh at tables and cakes as much as we like.

So we all end up losing.

As usual.

Dude I hate to break it to you but all they’ve done is monetised ways of pompously arguing with people and wearing odd wigs (hashtag probably not all lawyers).

if May’s deal can’t get through we leave with no deal unless we change course, right?

I mean I’d assume that May couldn’t get attempting to reverse article 50 through either?

(i wonder how many times i’ve typed those words in that order)
