I couldnât tell you. A lot? Iâd like to say 100 times but maybe thatâs too many. Probably more like 30 times?
That said, I donât really rate the versions you can buy now. I have the DVD they did of the original version (came out around 2005 or 2006 I think) and while the quality of the image is bad, the original cut is just so much better paced without the ludicrous insertion of the Jabba scene with Solo.
Anyway, I think itâs a great film, although obviously itâs aged a bit. Tried watching it with my daughter yesterday and she only got 17 minutes in but was struck again by how well minimal dialogue conveys so much. Characters are named but in a way that doesnât feel like clunky exposition.
Take Luke: First time we see him is with an older guy, then a woman calls out âLuke, Luke,â and he runs so we know his name and she says, âTell your uncleâŠâ, and now we know the family dynamic. Thereâs a lot of that back and forth.
You also have the Droids. The Jawas put the restraining bolts on them but you donât really know what theyâve done until Luke takes one off R2. Even then itâs not dwelt upon, everything is just in its stride.
