Tone matters, yeah. I think some of this ‘disbelief’ is definitely a hyperbolic piss-take. While other times, yeah, it seems oddly like people really do believe that watching superhero movies is a sign of being a manbaby or something odd like that.

oh right. not a massive star wars fan, but I thought the first act was pretty fucking sweet. the second act killed it for me, though. can’t remember what happened in the last hour or so, tbh

I enjoyed The Force Awakens a lot. It wasn’t the most inventive film and I don’t think you can defend it from comments about lack of inventiveness, but after those prequels I just didn’t want it to make me cringe that I was even watching it, so it was well above that level.
