It is a sarcastic (I assume Scottish/NE England) phrase meaning “no chance”, “I disagree” or similar
or perhaps it only exists in my head

They never feel as nice if you put them on before washing them first, in my experience.
Depends if you’ve got another set you can use, of course.
Each use for me is approx. 9 hours so I’m washing it. Got 8 on the current rota.
