🎸 Ballad of a Thin Man: the Dylan Listening Club - Saved (1980) - from post 1040

That thundercrack to kick the album off is the best.

Aside from the obvious standouts, forgot how good Queen Jane Approximately is

It’s not even in the top 3 best tracks of highway 61 :slightly_smiling_face:

apologies again as still playing catch up - Bringing It All Back Home.

What a fucking record and i can see why people say it’s a great gateway recordto get into dylan as it’s got everything.

Subterranean Homesick Blues is fucking amazing, love the lyrics, the the guitar riff, love the video.
She Belongs to Me is such a beautiful vivid track and a gorgeous melody.
Maggies Farm - a lot of fun.
Bob Dylan’s 115th dream is an absolute all timer for me, love how the band fail to come in at first but then on next take - bang. Love the story he weaves and wishing columbus good luck at the end. Love it.
Mr Tambourine man is just stunning, i love it and as mentioned up thread i find it hard to put into words why it’s so good, it’s like a dream.
It’s alright ma - fucking hell what a track, again stunning imagery and love his voice throughout.

The songs i haven’t mentioned are all excellent as well. Again for me he’s so far ahead of everyone else at this stage it’s not even fair…and 6 months later releases Highway 61 Revisited.

From freewheelin to bringing it all back home he’s written abut twice as many all timers than just about everyone else manages in their whole career and he’s not got to his best two records yet.

Nah. Slow Train Comin and Saved.

There’s some bleak weeks coming up.

At least there’s one banger on most of the records. I picked Empire Burlesque because that’s total shit from top to bottom.

Honestly both are good

Nah. Sorry, but they’re absolutely not for me. That’s the era my mum started on Dylan with, so we had a load of those late 70s/early 80s records knocking around. All rubbish. Tried doing hard with it, but nothing doing.

Maybe the listening club will change my mind. But I’m hugely doubting.

This. The live version on No Direction Home is my favourite, but the original is still perfect.

My parents were the same despite liking no other Dylan. Weird picks.

Tbf Down in the Groove and especially Under the Red Sky are my picks for complete disasters so I get it.

At least we’re not doing Dylan And The Dead!

Need to talk about the actual good albums first I suppose.
