good book that
i bought this last week, will try and start it soon
Absolutely love this record - one that seems to always get 4th or 5th place in conversations about his best but feels, on its day, the most pleasurable to listen to front to back.
The first half is just a lot of fun. And I suppose when you listen to them in order like this itās easier to see why going from the sparse understated folk of the previous two albums to Subterranean, Maggieās Farm, Outlaw, on the Road and 115th Dream had such an impact. It really is a pretty in your face 25 minutes of music.
And then he just casually follows it up with the best album side of folk music in his career.
An absolute 10/10
I always find this album kinda weird pacing wise. Itās basically two separate releases. Listening it in order you kinda see more continuity. Bob Dylanās 115th Dream" Is ultimately another comedy skit number.
Side 2 is so strong. Itās Alright Ma (Iām Only Bleeding Is simply amazing. Gates of Eden is also strong. Sort of gone off Mr Tamborine man and baby blue though.
I still think Maggies Farm is an atrocious song. Can not stand it.
I feel that the two peak folk albums are better and the two albums that follow this are as well.
I sort of think itās two EPs that are almost stronger seen as separate works.
Still like at least an 8/10 probably a 9.
āI was riding on the Mayflower when I thought I spied some landā¦ā
I still for the life of me do not know whatās funny. It feels like one of those Bronze Age jokes that no one understands anymore
I really like the lyrics and admire Dylanās defiant snarling delivery. If Iām totally honest with myself itās never been a song Iāve actually really enjoyed listening to, though.
Bob Dylanās like my 12th most listened to artist of the last 20 years according to Last.fm.
In 2025 I have already listened to more Bob Dylan than in any of the previous years and itās only mid February.
Apparently itās just that the backing band didnāt come in when he started the song (combined with a load of weed Iād guess)
I really like 115th Dream though, a way better vers of what he was attempting in Motorpsycho Nightmare on the previous album
Also like the little joke at the end about āTailsā rhyming with āSailsā and convincing him he has to go back to the ship, and showing he had no intention of going back to the jail to help his pals
Well⦠fuck. I missed a chunk of this.
Time to catch upā¦
āHe said his name was Columbus, and I just said āgood luckāā is such a good ending
Love it
Itās the first Dylan song that really got stuck in my head. The imagery of the lyrics is so vivid. Like your on a trip with Dylan. But heās high and your along for the ride. Totally absurd, excellent songwriting.
i love it, one of my absolute favourite dylan tracks. Pretty sure i picked it in my top dylan tracks in the HGATR Dylan
Love how it starts and love how it ends.
So last weekās
Another Side of⦠8/10
Although overall lower quality than last two feels a bit more consistent, sort of feel his song craft at this point means heās not going to right a song thatās bad. Doesnāt have many classics but does have quite a few underrated songs imo
You must leave, now take what you need
You think will last
But whatever you wish to keep
You better grab it fast
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun
Crying like a fire in the Sun
Look out baby, the saints are cominā through
And itās all over now, baby blue
The highway is for gamblers
Better use your sense
Take what you have gathered
From coincidence
The empty handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets
The sky too is fallinā in over you
And itās all over now, baby blue
PFFFTTTTTT
Sorry, work and too much snow fucking it.
