Highway 61 Revisited - 9/10

Deffo the most consistent of his ā€˜classics’ so far.

Though potentially for me, Like a rolling stone and highway 61 are two of his classic songs that have most lost their impact for me.

Tombstone Blues, Ballad of a thin man and Desolation Row though, still so good

Some great singing in this:

My advice is to let the boys in

Is there hole for me to get sick in?

With a fantastic collection of stamps to win friends and influence his uncle

As mentioned I find it hard to choose between Highway 61 and Bringing it all Back Home but they’re my two favourites by a mile

I think there are a couple more all timers on Bringing and I love the contrast in the two sides, but the electric material feels a bit more substantial and fully formed on Highway. An incredible opener and closer, but it’s easy forget how good some of the tracks in between are. Tombstone Blues is a personal favourite.

Might make a spreadsheet

I think in part its because its not that overplayed really.

I like how the best songs on it are written out of spite. Underrated emotion for good music.

Stuck this album on yesterday in the car, was punching the steering wheel in delight within seconds. Must go for a headphone listen to it and BIABH soon because I have thoughts about the band performances on both that I need to put into words.

Incredible the power ā€˜Like A Rolling Stone’ still has now. Just a perfect performance.

Very few singers manage to convey contempt with quite the precision Bob does. It’s an underrated skill.
