It was on iPlayer for ages but it looks like itās disappeared recently
Currently obsessed by this version from Hard Rain
Bob is too hot on the Hard Rain cover, wooft
I aint gonna listen to all of the Rolling Thunder Revue stuff - is there a disc which is best or a more focused comp of that stuff? Or should I just go for Hard Rain?
The original bootleg series version is just 2 discs, this one
im very happy weāre doing this club
The first half is up there with his very best IMVHO. The production in particular is wonderful - thereās something magical about the bass in Isis. Itās probably a record Iāll reach for more than Blood On The Tracks.
Loses a bit of impetus in the second but very much in the tier-just-below-the-very-top-tier of Bob.
And thereās a sampler of the big Rolling Thunder boxset on Spotify too
Okay got the chance to listen to Desire. Unsurprisingly itās great. I think Iāve maybe not paid as much attention because it sits between two of my all time fav Bobs (more next week).
But yeah I love that he takes the expansive inward looking stuff on Blood and looks externally, even if it does lead to Joey.
Not had a chance to spin all of these as much as Iād have liked to, but music doesnāt get better than mid-70s Dylan imho. His voice and songwriting as good as theyāve ever been. Just a shame he wasnāt quite as prolific in that period as he was in the mid-late 60s.
Have always liked Desire but listening again it might just be my second favourite now. Love the production and feel of it. Some of the tracks, particularly Isis, are even better with more bite in the live recordings but itās still probably the closest a studio LP gets to that high watermark of Rolling Thunder Revue.
Wee bit behind here but got a lot of love for the basement tapes. All of itās just a bit of a fuckin jam.
Like weāve said before; āSanta Feā is one of the catchiest things he ever wrote.

Listening to Desire and by Christ āJoeyā is absolute muck. Side B doesnāt hold up too well these days.
Side A could be one of his best ever but itās wild how much the studio versions pale in comparison to the live versions.
7/10 record overall.

Fuckin love Santa Fe
I will say that Rob Stoner is the best bass player Dylan ever had. Every note perfectly placed to move the song along. I know Tim Drummond joined for a few tours after this but he doesnāt have the presence that Stoner has.

Terrible post!
Might have to look for a torrent of this now. Canāt justify the price but really want to hear it.

Think weāve got a solid candidate for that below.

I know Iām going back but blood on the tracks is fuckin dynamite
Blasting Desire on a sunny train ride is a pretty great idea
The drums are one of the best things about it honestly. Every track has laidback swing to it, full of little fills and details, but never busy or showy. About as good as rock drumming gets - Black Diamond Bay working especially well for me just now
Romance in Durango is the weakest spot but thatās still lush with the layers of instrumentation
Hurricane and Sara must be in contention for the best pair of opening/closing tracks ever. Both could easily be in someoneās Dylan top 10 without batting an eye
And the vocals are as good as he gets, weary and strident and arch and heartfelt
