'Iowa’s a lot heavier than Slipknot’s first album.

Tentative hand up at the back for Converge

Spiritualized did that one garage rock album, but it was incredibly meh and really stripped away what makes them great.

Yes, Linkin Park, although they went both ways.

Minutes To Midnight was heavier than their first two albums, then they softened up for A Thousands Suns then they went hard again for The Hunting Party (one of their best albums) and then soft again so they flip flop a bit

Six. By Seven. Started out like this:

Then had songs like this on their second album:

loads of 70s heavy metal bands probably got heavier in the 80s with the rise of thrash/speed/death metal

Faith No More, arguably. Angel Dust was pretty extreme compared to what came before.

Cave In, sort of.

Started off heavy, became increasingly more accessible and then went at it hard again.

Nirvana were pretty poppy in the 60s but by the 90s they were well heavy

Was contemplating NiN but they definitely got way less aggressive as Trent got older.

Beat me to Ministry.

The Second Coming is loads riffier than the debut album

Propagandhi. Their first album was on Fat Wreck Chords and while political was quite bratty and had comedy elements. Songs like “Ska Sucks”. Fitted with the rest of the label really. It was their third with a new bass player and vocalist that took them into much heavier hardcore and thrash influenced territory.
