bands when you really do prefer the later stuff

Solo Bob Mould

Dinosaur Jr

I might be coming round to this, or at least thinking they’re just as good. New album is fucking brilliant.

Possibly controversial opinion, but New Order

Technique came out when I was fifteen, Republic while I was at uni - although, given that they were over thirty years ago does that really count as “later stuff”?

oh yeah this is the right answer, clearly

I think Suede are more… they’ve just always been brilliant? OK, slight dip around the 00s maybe, but their early stuff is great and sleazy and sexy and grimy, and by all rights they should now be an embarrassing throwback to their younger selves on the Steve Lamacq Britpop Retro Butlins Weekenders circuit alongside The Supernaturals and three members of Elastica who aren’t Justine Frischmann, but not only are they not, they’re still making not just brilliant music, but some of the best of their career.

The Blue Hour is a phenomenal album. But the last two, as good as they are, could have just been one long album.

Nothing post revival is bad. The low quality bar is average. It is just that the first three albums are incredible.

Only liked them when they went disco

Jason Molina. Lots of great stuff all the way through obvs but generally prefer Magnolia Electric Co. stuff to Songs: Ohia stuff

Talking Heads

(Really struggle with anything before Remain In Light. I’m way more likely to put on True Stories than 77.)

Hard agree. Don’t really like Souvlaki at all, but absolutely love the three albums after that.

Just think they’re a far better Prog Rock band than Black Metal.

This may be more at home in the controversial opinions thread but Pj Harvey. Maybe not the most recent albums but from somewhere around Is this Desire through to idk Let England Shake. Just can’t really get into the early angsty stuff.
