Hundred Reasons. Had all the EPs, loads of singles, a poster. They were great fun live, and it was nice to see a Gravity DIP band go large for a minute, Kingston represent etc.

Gave them a spin yesterday - there are a few top tunes, but most of it’s massively overproduced and and a bit simplistic, and lyrics are generally on the side of emo-cringe. Pop is a tune though.

Now, Hell Is For Heroes? Their stuff hasn’t aged a day.

Just find his voice incredibly grating now. Also probably associate them with my angsty early teen years which probably doesn’t help.

fair enough, i didn’t get into them/hear them until I was about 18. I was sold on Ritual immediately.

think a lot of the best screamo type bands around that time suffered from overproduction. bigger labels were just starting to realise there was money in that kind of music, but hadn’t really clocked that producing/mastering it like a big-money chart album would take away some of the charm.

Not a fan of this thread. Too much scoffing at things you used to love, like:

a) You had to stop liking them for some reason
b) You should ever be embarrassed by stuff you like(d)
c) It didn’t inform your music taste now

JJ72. Had all their early singles (including original October Swimmer), some had CD1 and CD2 versions. Saw them live many times. It is one of those things where you just do it automatically as a teenager, find a band and get everything without question. Totally lost interest by their second album. There were a lot of bands and genres I liked when I was finding my way with music, many have kept their original charm somewhere in my heart. JJ72 haven’t for some reason.

I remember saving up my paper round money and buying a Janes Addiction t-shirt that had the Virgin Mary on it and my Mum going batshit (Irish) and I was just an arse about it. Cool story.

i got an email out of the blue recently from someone from the old Idlewild forum who i apparently sent a b-side to via Yousendit 10 years ago (one i’d probably downloaded from Limewire or something) asking me if i had some live BBC gig from 2005. i replied saying “sorry, I’ve been through a few laptops since then and don’t have any of the rarities i would have had back then anymore”. he wrote back thanking me for replying and said he’ll send me all his Idlewild rarities when he has time. i haven’t had the heart to tell him i’m not that bothered anymore and he needn’t go to the trouble.

still like the first few albums of course but don’t stick them on very much anymore. 100 Broken Windows is still a brilliant album, but they used to be a proper obsession for me. last 2 albums being shite hasn’t helped. i used to really like everything up to Make Another World but that and Warnings/Promises are a bit hit and miss when i go back to them now

I didn’t! But I did catch them at the Peel in like 2005 at the Gravity Xmas Party, with Hell Is For Heroes! Top, top fun.

Never saw ET:11, but I did see Instruction a couple of times, plus Capdown. Both supported by Twofold, who were the best Gravity band imo.

Here’s a shit video of them from ages ago. Can’t find any proper audio, but if you see Dance To The Rhythm anywhere, give it a spin.

It was this one! Found a pic on eBay. Stacked it on my skateboard and ripped the arm. Was gutted.
