Lots of posts in this thread aren’t exactly what I’d call spoken word vocals, more just limited singers with a limited range.

The absolute pinnacle of real spoken word vocalists is Meanwhile, Back in Communist Russia in my humble.

Wild Swans - The Coldesst Winter for 100 years The quality of this upload is baaad, but it’s a great song, although, as the title suggests, we’re in the wrong season for it.

A House - Endless Art - Someone put this on a mixtape for me once, absolutely loved it.

Orphans and Vandals - Mysterious Skin - one of my favourite songs of all time

That’s ok, more range of shit for me to check out.

Not a band but the Thomas Ligotti album ‘The Unholy City’ is pretty great. Musically it is pretty basic though.

And following on from that- The For Carnation

Excellent shout. I heard this earlier for the first time. Much better than the first single they released imo.

I guess it’s the comfortable chair
And company, you can’t buy company
It’s a frame of mind
It’s people who’ve been through what you’ve been through
And a cigar,
A good cigar now and again

Love hearing Craig Finn tell a story about kids, drugs and the twin cities area:

The Van Pelt are also underrated, but great
