ah they were great, but i saw one of them say recently that there was no chance basically

I was at Wireless too (got seduced by that being the first show they announced, then they went and played a stack before it, some of them nearer too!)

I think I was happiest right at the start when they played Do You Remember the First Time and Pink Glove. I was desperate for them to play Razzmatazz, OU or My Legendary Girlfriend but they never came. As a result, it was almost disappointing when Common People arrived as I knew that’d be the last one.

Countdown seemed to be the only Separations track that got an airing at all on that tour which is gutting as that album has have a few gems like My Legendary Girlfriend or Love is Blind that would have gone down a storm live!

Can completely understand your disappointment over it being their supposed “comeback show” and only for them to play a bunch of gigs beforehand though. It did slightly take a shine of that show for me too. Hope you didn’t have to travel too far for the Wireless show?

Just the length of the country - Aberdeen to London! But it was a part of my holiday that year and there were some great bands in support too.

Oh wow - Only a short distance then! Yeah I remember Grace Jones and TV on the Radio being absolutely class too.

I just saw Biffy Clyro last night with Mike Vennart and yeah, he says he shys away from even talking about the reunions because it’s constantly asked and it’ll likely never happen, at least with Mark Heron.

I wonder though if either Vennart’s band does a reunion with everyone but Heron, and just with a new drummer, or just under another name? “Music for a Nurse”? or something.

As far as Jellyfish, it’s simply that Andy Sturmer and Roger Joseph Manning don’t talk largely because they hate each others guts. I may have a better chance of playing in a Jellyfish tribute band, than it ever happening.

It was diminishing returns from the Beta Band though as they went on. Steve Mason is delivering with each album over the last 10 years (apart from the Black Affair maybe) So hopefully they’ll stay split for the time being…

What exactly happened with Heron? The only explanation I’ve ever heard has been “drugs”.

@Richie_Ronco, @AtTheBorderGuy - I think the biggest barrier to a Beta Band reunion isn’t Steve Mason, but John Maclean, who has quite a promising film career.

Was thinking about them reforming the other day actually as me and my bro were discussing how many good tracks they have

thing with bands who have split is the same as plenty of other bands, lacking the things that made them good in the first place

if i could see Oasis in a venue without loads of fucking dickheads and where they’d somehow teleported Liam’s voice from about 1995, that would be fairly high up on my list

i’d say the same thing about Black Sabbath and Ozzy’s voice from about 1970 too… plus Bill Ward on the drums

my real answers are Oceansize (who I did see, on the Frames tour) and Million Dead (who I never saw)

well it was the drugs mainly. There’s a number of articles about it. One that I’m failing to find right now with Mike Vennart.

This video I guess was a good example of the frustration that Vennart and the band had with him Heron

I’d love to see the original Mars Volta lineup again.

I would as well, or really just have them reform again. Get someone to try and fill his shoes.

I suppose At the Drive-In or Antemasque technically could do a set of all Volta songs but that is pretty unlikely.

Good chance the Volta will reunite and record at some point.

They’d both need much better drummers. To be fair TMV’s track record of drummers is pretty phenomenal. Pridgen was amazing in a totally different way to Theodore. They could probably try, but it wouldn’t be the same. Also, they’d probably have to play them straight as opposed to TMV’s long jams. Love the jams.

The classic lineup of Gorky’s got back together for Johns wedding. Only played 3 or 4 songs though if memory serves. I was with John the day he made the phone call to say he was quitting…
