EDIT: I’ve popped this behind a spoiler.

Bit of a fail going on here.

From the bottom of a photo-story page about a Brum hospital:

Hmmm. What does it say when I click through to that information page?

And from the Q&A linked to from that page:

I get that the BBC isn’t getting paid for displaying these links, but advert(orial)s ought to be easy enough to filter out, even without the implied human review for editorial merit. Especially when the Birmingham Mail are actually (credit to 'em) being honest about what the content is.

Am I imagining this or does the BBC shy away from announcing the UK coronavirus numbers in headlines (“Coronavirus infections rise rapidly”) while they are more than happy to plaster numbers of other countries in their headlines?

The Govt stopped issuing official numbers some while ago (because obviously these would be hugely embarrassing), the Beeb are happy to go along with this.

Suuuuuuurely not?

Hmmm. Heavy-leaning into a presumed African illiteracy (which I don’t question as such, but the way this is presented feels like it’s playing the trope a bit)? Or am I overthinking it?

edit: Also, that header image. Military garb, naturally. Which, again, will be a part of the story. But is the top billing genuinely merited?

The journalist who asked this question was Newsnight’s political editor, Nicholas Watt

Anyway, his report was on Newsnight just now

Very nice of the BBC to ‘both sides’ the Poland abortion ban :sunglasses:

These new rules sound like they’re trying to appease the worst people and haven’t recognised the recent failures in reporting at all

Poppy fascism is quite the thing, isn’t it?

You’d hope that it’s so transparent now that even the most well-meaning poppy-wearer would be aware of how much it’s been hijacked, and how much their overt support is being used to nefarious ends. Alas, no. There is always a murkier depth to be dug.

This shit really pissed me off at the Scottish Parliament. No charity was allowed to collect donations in the Holyrood campus - except the poppy fund.

There is literally a veterans charity across the road from the building but they wouldn’t be allowed to collect donations 30 metres south.

Fucking hell.
