Can’t quite believe the shortlist for this year. Most have been well known for about two years. Sam Fender for Sound of 2026?
THIS is the list:
Barry Can’t Swim
Chappell Roan
Confidence Man
Doechii
English Teacher
Ezra Collective
Good Neighbours
KNEECAP
mk.gee
Myles Smith
Pozer
Must be a serious lack of new talent doing the rounds…
Incredible to have not one but TWO acts that have already won the Mercury Prize in there (plus at least one nominee)

Bloody 'ell. I was introduced to Confidence Man on this forum in spring 2018
And eternally grateful for that!

Few names to have a listen to for me.
It’s very unusual indeed that I have heard 8 of these 11 acts
A couple or more of them are already massive too
What’s going on BBC?
Mk.Gee is gonna win isn’t he? He’s exactly the Sting/Jack White/Jeff Buckley combo that nobody asked for (apart from some a&r men)
Heard this Chapelle Roan is meant to be not bad.

As the last five winners have been female pop or hip hop acts he wouldn’t fit the profile. I heard his recent track on the radio the other night and assumed it was lifted from a Sting track, if not it’s got a pretty good hook though I’d never choose to listen to it in my own time
Beethoven overlooked. Classic BBC.

BBC reporting that the Sound Of 1880 is Tchaikovsky.

Just heard one of his for the first time and the Sting resemblance really is uncanny.
Yeah very silly. A mix between already massive, award winning, and well established artists with multiple albums. Had it been this year’s list… maybe.
When’s Barry gonna learn to swim?

Myles Smith and Pozer have both have had hits over the last 12 months. You’ve probably heard ‘Stargazing’ by Myles Smith without realising.
