Like, they’re beans, and they sprout, but they don’t look like ‘beansprouts’ and don’t really serve the same purpose

Unless you buy actual beansprout beans I guess. We used them to make our own bean burgers BTW, they’re very nice

The fresh ones you buy from the supermarket will have a warning on the pack to say not to eat them raw - this kind of thing is why. Obviously it’s rare for harmful bacteria to get into where they’re produced, but if any does get in, the temperature they’re grown at is also great for helping the bacteria to grow. If you treat them with the same caution you’d treat raw meat (cook thoroughly and wash your hands and any surfaces after handling), you’ll be fine in any case.
