I would absolutely pay £60 to see Beck do the setlist he did the other night. If I was in London of course.

Yeah so I’m in Glasgow and saw that set list and thought I’d definitely pay that for that, so I did! :grinning::grinning::grinning:
Not seen beck in years, well apart from Glastonbury last year but that doesn’t count.

impulse trip is it ! enjoy.

Absolutely ma man, cheers :+1:

Big fan of Beck, but the song he played on Jools was dreadful. Also looked like he was semi-miming or didn’t know the words for half of it, backing singers carried most of the song.

*new song.

NME gave the new album 4 stars. Do they give everything 4 stars now? Albums, shampoo, shoes…

Yeah, I actually quite like that song (even though it is the poppiest thing he has ever done by a good margin) but that version was not good.

Still, when they bust into Devil’s Haircut at the end it made me REALLY wish I was going to that gig tomorrow night.

DH was great. New album must be bad though if he’s resorting to playing old songs on Jools!

Far from it. Listened to it this morning, the new album’s a BELTER.

Last nights gig was amazing, such a fucking excellent set list.
Been a long time since I’ve seen beck live (excluding last year at glasto) and I’ve fucking missed him.
He’s the fucking man!

Big resounding “meh” from me lads

That’ll be an “8/10” then, amiright?

I don’t know, are you?

Not on this occasion. Good to see a low score. Shame it’s Beck!

Ok…

I’m not helping myself here am I?

Haha, well you could explain what you meant I guess

Sorry - I could be wrong, but there seems to have been a very long period in which a lot of albums pick up 8s. I like new music just as much as the old stuff, but even acknowledged ‘classics’ from 20 years ago were only picking up 7s and 8s at the time and I generally find stuff is over-rated these days. There’s a lot of good debate (7/10) on this in the 10/10 thread. It could be because I read DiS more than other sites, but I always get the impression that DiS reviewers can be a tad over generous, hence my baseless comment above. I’m sure you’re all more objective than that.

from who, me personally or DiS/wider internet in general?

Can’t speak for anyone else but I tend to pick things I think I will like anyway, so there’s a decent chance I’m at least expecting a 7 or 8 out of 10 going in as a base score, and then see if they better, hit or miss that target. In general, because I tend to pick stuff I think I’ll like or am enthusiastic about trying, I tend to get good results, but not always. I’d wager most writers do this tbh.
