Yep. After about a year in the real world, I realised my work ambition was to… not have to work.

They’re basically offering the same rate which is a slight pay increase from my current job (I would get a pay rise for being at CW 2 years in August but the question is whether I’m going to resent the place) the major difference would be at Pivo I’d get a lot more management experience and freedom to express myself and apply myself to a brand new venue/venture, at BMT I go back to a familiar venue but with a whole load more knowledge and experience, would have less freedom but many more potential directions the job could go in working for a company like Cave.

Very intriguing time

Summary

PJ fancies himself as a more woke/less megalomaniac James Watt, (they’re good friends and quite similar personalities really) we’re essentially modelled as a less problematic Brewdog-lite so he wants to build the brand in a similar image.

its a weird thing in a lot of indie business models isn’t it… start small, take on the big boys… then… you’re the big boy… :upside_down_face:

maintaining what made you popular in the first place, those principles etc is tough to do… but must be rewarding when you get it right, as you help shape/influence an industry and a section of society.

mad really.

Kernel really nail that. But I can’t think of too many others off the top of my head.

I cant name one personally because Im not close enough to any to know what they genuinely think sets them apart from other brewers in terms of objectives… other than brew good beer.

For all their success I dont know for example what the intentions of North or Northern monk are… (who I came to later ) compared to someone like marble or thornbridge (who kind of started me into craft beer) but Id say northern monk particularly seem to have a different business model in terms of expansion and market reach.

Im not sure if marble are the most successful as they like their pub, like their core range and have the odd dabble outside of that :man_shrugging:

taking it back to the CW guys… they mustve chosen not to go the supermarket route.
They’ve chosen not to have external investment like others have… I dont know if they want to see people in every city of the world drinking their beer… or ever shop stocking it…

as I say its mad… keeping quality/ethics inline with expansion must be tough. deciding what level of expansion is tough… I dunno… is personal I guess.

and I bet for every decision that is made they’ll be people who love it or hate it… when really its up to them :man_shrugging: dunno. sorry for rambling.

I miss pubs.

Complete unformed thoughts here, but wasn’t there a bit of scepticism/annoyance within the industry regarding Cloudwater when they first started because they got some kind of initial external investment…?

ah right. happy to say I know nothing in that regards :man_shrugging:

No you are quite right on pretty much all of that, and I think people (not here but in general) would be better informed to remember that all craft breweries are small businesses who need to make decisions and have different intentions, there’s no model example for any of this and different places get different opportunities and really it’s just up to us to support who we feel good about.

I would always say “never say never”, however.

The 2 northern monk, the buxton and one of the salt were £2 each with a Clubcard.

feel like that’s enough to put me off personally, would rather drop that much at the bottle shop instead

obviously could also just spend money at both places instead

The 330ml bottles a few years ago were around the £8 if I remember correctly

Since they’re so popular and influential, has there been any discussion about changing the name to Cloutwater?
