Both Black Foxxes albums.

Let England Shake has basically been in my head as “favourite album of the decade” since it came out, and I can’t think of anything that’s been better than it; everything’s just executed perfectly throughout.

Also spent an absurd amount of time listening to Lost in the Dream during the second half of 2014 so that too, probably.

But yeah, nothing else to add that’s not already been mentioned several times upthread already, apart from maybe Susan Sundfor - Ten Love Songs

On the heavier side of things, here are a few suggestions (done in a rush):

Dillinger Escape Plan- Dissociation (this is simultaneously their most eclectic and accomplished album)

The Armed- Only Love

Rolo Tomassi- Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It (epic doesn’t even begin to describe it)

Melt-Banana- Fetch (no heavy, but probably too noisy for most people. But it’s got that amazing Melt-Banana energy married with so many great tunes).

Converge- All We Love We Leave Behind and The Dusk in Us (obviously)

Elder- Reflections of a Floating World (although I haven’t listened to Dead Roots Stirring which is apparently even better).

Daughters- S/T or You Won’t Get What You Want (too early to decide on YWGWYW, but it already feels pretty special).

There are some excellent suggestions on this thread.

A few more, not sure if these were mentioned:

Joanna Newsom: Divers
Pile- Dripping
Blanck Mass- World Eater

But if I have to go for a non-heavy option, it would have to include some Jeff Rosenstock. So:

Bomb the Music Industry!- Vacation
Jeff Rosentock- WORRY. and POST-
If I had to choose one, I’d say WORRY. Just an incredibly enjoyable album I put on all the time but never get tired of.

Thanks very much

This one isn’t going to make any critics’ lists, but Strange Ranger’s Rot Forever (recorded under the name Sioux Falls) is one of my absolute favorites of the decade and might even get my #2 vote behind Burst Apart. I’ve written a lot about this album already, but if you think you might have any interest in early Modest Mouse with a bit of Home Like Noplace Is There and late 90s radio rock splashed in, definitely give this a shot. It’s a long, sprawling album packed with feeling and really taps into a certain kind of sadness / frustration / nostalgia that most bands aren’t quite able to capture. Many of the songs have amazing Trailer Trash outro style endings that just keep going and going, and there’s this recurring sad progression that pops up at various points that ties everything together. I think if this had come out in the mid 90s instead of 2016 we’d be seeing Rot Forever at 25 articles. It’s a really special album.

The actual answer is probably some album by a Chinese artist that nobody on here has heard of

Bemoaning the fact that it’s been a significantly weaker decade for British bands compared to the 90s or 00s. There’s still been good stuff, Wolf Alice, Twilight Sad, The Joy Formidable etc, I’m not denying that. Just much weaker than the two decades before.

Aussie bands seem to have done well for themselves though.

Albums I’ve been completely obsessed with:
Neneh Cherry and The Thing - The Cherry Thing
St Vincent - Strange Mercy
Kurt Vile - b’lieve I’m goin down
White Denim - Corsicana Lemonade

Though those all feel strongly connected to places and people in my life so zero objectivity claimed here

Really enjoying reading through this…like a few others have mentioned I’m being reminded of loads of great records I’m gonna dive back in to. Additions from me would be Lisbon(2010?) And Heaven(2012) by The Walkmen, both stunning and arguably their best two

Just had a browse and there was a lot of good music there - Wild Light by 65 days of static is a definite. How many do you want?
