The whole concept of a double album got strangely blurred with the advent on the compact disc. The Class London Calling is a bona fide double album yet easily a single CD. At core the concept is the extra length need so more than a standard album I guess. Anyway, Zen Arcade…

I think London Calling was billed as a double album at a single album price when it came out on LP…that might have had a bearing on why the CD came as a single. I guess it was important to have a double LP for quality reasons, but it was just running length that would determine whether it needed to go to a second CD or not.

Not sure what they charged for Sandinista! when that followed as a triple.
