Best new release mailing lists, playlists and radio?

Been really keeping up with new releases week by week since New Year, largely inspired by the weekly thread on here, and I’m actually liking new music again after about a decade of being stuck in the late-noughties.

Got a nice little system going of working through the DiS new releases thread (genuinely a brilliant point of reference), but also enjoy a few mailing list emails as well. So far the ones i take most from are probably:

  • Norman Records
  • Piccadilly Records
  • Sister Ray

Then have a few new release playlists to listen to when out and about, mainly…

Anything else you’d recommend based on the above? Think my tastes are probably becoming more narrow with age, mainly folky with some ambient. Any radio tips especially appreciated.

Surprised this hasn’t had many more replies, as I was also kind of awaiting some interesting leads to follow!

I have to recommend the Gold Flake Paint emails (3 / 6 / 5) which have revealed lots of stuff I’ve loved as well as shared music from bands I already love.

But the best resource I’ve found is this board’s threads - so I’m very interested in where regular contributers get their stuff from.

For me it’s also just following support bands from gigs on social media and noticing when they’re releasing a debut or whatever. But I wish there were more good resources that I knew about.

Glad to see this thread cause my current system is terribly inefficient. I just go to AOTY’s new release section and queue everything with competent cover art that isn’t rap/metal/electronic (knowing hit rate on those won’t be high enough to warrant the time investment for me). I’ve started spreading that to Thursdays, going through singles to make a list of albums worth a fuller listen on Fridays. But it’s a lot of time spent listening to stuff I don’t find remotely fulfilling.

Radio-wise, I would recommend The Breakdown on Sheffield Live. New release focused, either albums that came out on the Friday (it’s broadcast on Saturday) or new tracks from upcoming albums. I find the latter helpful for adding to my album list for future Fridays. It’s quite indie-heavy but has a bit of variety. New shows uploaded to Castbox, normally on the Sunday.

My main source of new music is still Spotify’s discover weekly. I’ll add any songs I like to a separate playlist, and then follow the artists. Feel like I must find on average five new artists from that a week, and now end up with a bunch of (too many) new releases each Friday.

I’ve noticed that Silent Radio have started to do a (quite lengthy) new album round up some Thursdays.

Don’t think there was one for last Friday but here’s the previous week’s:

Edit: oh here’s the post for the current week

I also do something similar to what @paulo13 describes but with Bandcamp instead, following artists and labels I like, browsing the new and notable section, then adding anything likely to my rolling list.
