See, i prefer the start to The Downward Spiral. Big fan of Somewhat Damaged also, but perhaps due to which one i’ve listened to more i have to go with Mr Self Destruct. It’s just spot, starts with the whipping and then smashes you. It’s a great start, giving you a taster of what you’re letting yourself in for. It’s just so noisy, and to nick your description - exhilarating.

Man, gonna go home and listen to The Downward Spiral.

I reckon The Strokes are the most consistent ‘opening track’ band - every single album opens with a banger (often the best track on the album, especially the later ones)
