Ride - Leave Them All Behind has to be up there.
See, i prefer the start to The Downward Spiral. Big fan of Somewhat Damaged also, but perhaps due to which one i’ve listened to more i have to go with Mr Self Destruct. It’s just spot, starts with the whipping and then smashes you. It’s a great start, giving you a taster of what you’re letting yourself in for. It’s just so noisy, and to nick your description - exhilarating.
Man, gonna go home and listen to The Downward Spiral.

Mr Self Destruct is ace as well. Both up there for me.
Either:
Pantera - Strength Beyond Strength - Far Beyond Driven
or
Slayer - Angel of Death - Reign in Blood
I reckon The Strokes are the most consistent ‘opening track’ band - every single album opens with a banger (often the best track on the album, especially the later ones)
i’d quite like to nominate bob dylan’s tangled up in blue from seminal 1974 album blood on the tracks
Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
The Libertines - The Libertines
Planet Telex though surely
or even Everything in its Right Place would be the go-to
A banger, absolutely slays all. “YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!”
The Mercy Seat from Tender Prey
At Least That’s What You Said off A Ghost is Born. Crunchy.
