Pioneer to the Falls is a pretty epic opening track too. Shame about the rest of the album.

Good choice.

Although I think I’d actually go with

Arc Arsenal from Relationship of Command.

It’s got to be Baba O’Riley off Who’s Next by The Who…

No, wait - Hi-de-Ho off Blood, Sweat & Tears 3 by Blood, Sweat & Tears

I used to love the one-two piano intro then “Tonight, Tonight” on MCIS. Got into a spat with my mate who always skipped it after I lectured him at length about how he shouldn’t and appreciate the buildup instead. He insisted he hated all “piano music” as it was boring and shit.

Station to Station on a par with Search and Destroy

So many to choose from but the first time I listened to ‘Doolittle’ and heard ‘Debaser’. And every time I still hear it, I feel like I’m 17 again and everything is possible.

oh someone said that right above me

Saw them open a gig with Airbag in 2006 and have always found it a particularly perfect album opener ever since.

Planet Telex is worthy of a shout too, but EIIRP has never felt like the same kind of quintessential opener to me, probably cos it’s more low key and not starting with a bang.

Good point about EIIRP, never really think of it as an “opening song”, always seemed seemed like something in isolation from the rest of the album. Maybe because I ended up skipping it after over-hearing it, or preferring the I Might Be Wrong live recording of it.

I think as individual songs I like all the I Might Be Wrong versions better.

I’ll 3rd prayer to god.

and throw in
modest mouse - dramamine
bats - higgs boson particle
grandaddy - he’s simple, he’s dumb …
hymie’s basement - 21st century pop song.

Definitely, except for Nation Anthem imo. Morning Bell live is so much better with the Pink Floyd Echos seagull guitar bit

National Anthem is a proper live highlight for me, so much fun. I think most people miss the horns but I heard the Glastonbury version (best version) well before I heard Kid A so I’ve never been too bothered.

Sorry for turning this into a Radiothread guyz.
