This was a good one, was annoyed that they didn’t explain the last three buffalos till the end though. Liking the fact that they were doing ‘repeats’ of earlier episodes in August so that you can see which episodes were highest voted to be replayed. Interestingly The Cathedral was the only one there that hasn’t been mentioned here yet.

I did laugh out loud on that episode when he said he’d gotten Alex to Vimeo him the money.

He’s really hamming up how annoying he is on this series, but gets on the right side of endearing I think.

In a way, I’m glad he became so unhinged at the end there. With the things he was saying to Debra I was just imagining the ways in which he’d probably just dedicate the rest of his life to making the lives of the family hell, bleeding them dry. Was a gripping story throughout, definitely felt a relief to discover the guy was dead in the end.

In the interest of the thread, I’d say the last episode was my favourite just because it meant there was a definite end to the story. The whole series was fascinating though.

I’m really coming round to Jonathan’s interjections into these stories with his annoyingness. Find the guy really funny and doesn’t get quirky at inappropriate points derailing the story. Found myself laughing out loud a few times during Kenny.

Agreed with this one. It works so well because the fact that he just let Hassan talk and he had a lot of interesting things to say. I really don’t think Adam is a very good interviewer and the episodes only really work with people he already knows.

it is heavily guest dependent - some people don’t work at all with his style of interviewing, and normally the best ones are with his friends. but then again I have really enjoyed the ones with Adam Curtis, Brian Eno, Zadie Smith, none of whom he knew I don’t think. and Claudia O’Doherty. she’s the best.

I don’t normally listen to about half of them though.

also I find Jonathan Goldstein hilarious. I think season 2 seems more refined and better put together in general than Season 1 (though I haven’t listened to all of season 1 yet)

I’ve only listened to the Adam Curtis one out of those and I think that comes under the same category as Hassan: People so fucking interesting that there doesn’t need to be anyone doing the interviewing at all, just let them speak.

Totally agree on season two of Heavyweight being better than season one. Jonathan boosting his own awkward profile helps the episodes where the subject matter didn’t take the direction he’d hoped when he started. The whole Kenny thing was a rambling mess in the end, with the whole thing only loosely fitting in to Heavyweight’s format, but he managed to make it thoroughly entertaining anyway.

it’s so boring - I turned it off after 10 minutes,
I think generally the podcasts are great, as long as the guest is someone who Adam can really relate to - that is when he is best and I think that is why it works so well with people who he knows. I think the one with Miranda Sawyer was flipping brilliant.

I think this is my favourite podcast this year. Hassan is such an engaging talker, would have been happy if it was a couple of hours longer! Feel like I got a real insight into a world I knew little about. Excellent stuff!

This episode of Griefcast with Lou Conran was the best one yet, the subject matter is desperately sad but still manages to be very funny. Some of the comments she got from her friends need to be heard to be believed.

I listened to this yesterday at work and was in tears. Then absolutely gobsmacked at the stuff her friends said afterwards.

The bit about her friend being like "ooh you should give birth to a dead baby more often"
after she received some gifts. Imagine someone saying that!!

Does anyone use a podcast app?
I just use my iPhone but since the update last year it’s dog shit and now really slow. Is an app the way to go? Is there even an app? I dunno
