Porridge; stolen Pineapple chunks or A Day Out. If there’s a funnier sight in British sitcom history than Fletch riding a stolen bike, pulling from inside his donkey jacket a full pint, drinking it, then tossing the drained glass over a hedge then I haven’t seen it.

the Paedogeddon episode of Brass Eye is the episode of TV that all edgy American comedians think they’ve made but haven’t. The episode with Daryl the racist is the best Peep Show episode and probably my favourite sitcom episode I can think of? And yeah spinners and losers obvs.

I think for me it has to be It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s The Nightman Cometh

Best TV all year

“Who versus?” in that is one of the single most brilliant lines of dialogue ever written.

Seinfeld’s “The Pen” needs more recognition. Anything that involves Jerry’s parents and/or George’s parents, really.

Come to think of it my Top 5 sitcom episodes are just the best 5 from Blackadder II.

Fairly big list here:

Blackadder - The Black Seal
Young Ones - Interesting or Summer Holiday
Man About the House - Did You Ever Meet Rommel?
Fawlty Towers - Gourmet Night
Count Arthur Strong - The Day the Clocks Went Back (Rockers vs Urchins)
The Goodies - Kung Fu Capers
Hancock’s Half Hour - The Blood Donor
I’m Alan Partridge - Alan Attraction
Porridge - Happy Release
Rab C Nesbitt - Holiday
Sykes - Football

Would also have shouts for things like City Lights, Detectorists, Only Fools, League of Gentlemen, Mongrels which are just good without standout episodes.

The best Partridge episode is the one when he is bored in the Travel Tavern

My only reservation. Blood Donor is the episode most fondly remembered but I think Twelve Angry Men, The Lift and (possibly) The Radio Ham are as good.

Happy Release is wonderful; so many great lines and a superb punchline
Also: Steptoe & Son - Desperate Hours

Yeah, Twelve Angry Men actually probably beats The Blood Donor. Picked that one because I’ve got a ye olde LP version of it b/w The Radio Ham at home.

Snap! When I was young we would sit around the table and listen to it after Sunday dinner. Latterly it was Twelve Angry Men b/w The Lift

I haven’t seen The Smoking Room for ages but I feel like that might fit the bill - it had a lot of heart for also being quite depressing/dreary. Don’t know how we’ll it’s aged though.
