Best Spanish towns for food?

Looking for a smaller, less touristy city or town, where the food’s particularly good. Not that fussed whether it’s roasting hot or not weather-wise, but would be handy if it was near a major airport I guess.

Any suggestions? Was watching a video about a place called Cuenca near Madrid earlier. Anyone been there?

Bilbao and San Sebastián by miles

If you’re not dead set on mainland Spain, Palma is really good.

Very near the airport too.

Yeah, been thinking of Cadiz myself after reading about Laurie Lee’s trips there.

Where in Cadiz? I’m there now and haven’t been overly impressed with the food. Also seems more expensive than other places in Andalucía. Otherwise lovely though

Can’t find the full episode online, but always wanted to go to this one place in Cadiz largely based on this clip…

Cheers! Actually tried to go in this place, randomly, but it was a Friday night and incredibly busy, so I’ll try to give it another go after the weekend when it’s hopefully a little bit quieter. But it does look brilliant

I’m off to Palma in a fortnight… any recommendations?

Yeah! Really liked El Camino, El Txoko de Martín, Morrofino and Stagier. Also Mercat de l’Olivar food market.

We were travelling with my 7 yo so also ended up having pizza at NAP (very decent) and pan Asian street food at Naan (also great) because he got a bit fed up of the places we were going to.

Controversial maybe, but i can take or leave paella - but Hoyo 10 in Portitxol seems to do a decent one and is a nice old-school spot.

We also enjoyed Es Baluard museum of modern art, 2B Art Gallery, and Catedral-Basílica.

And must admit, some days we just stayed in the hotel and popped over the road to the beach. Wanted to get the train to Soller but it was too hot. Will go next time. Palma is great - one of those cities where you can wing it a bit and not end up in some crappy tourist trap.

Not controversial at all, it’s an absolute lowlight of world cuisine. Arguably the poorest national dish.

El Camino is fucking excellent

Awesome thank you. First time for us away from the kids in 5 years :grinning:

We’ve already booked Camino for the first night so that sounds like a good start. If it’s that good I might see if I can book it twice!

Oh, mate. Lovely. It’s really nice - love a restaurant where you sit up at the bar.

I’d also suggest just wandering around Santa Catalina. Just felt like quite a ‘happening’ (God, I’m old) area. Loads of cool-looking places that we would have popped into had we been without kids.

I’ve booked Morrofino for the second night - seems very much entirely wine-focused, which is no problem at all

San Sebastian

Not been to Cadiz but heard good things. San Sebastián is amazing though.

Went to a couple nice places in Chinchon
