Best Tracks of 2016

Wreck and Reference Powders
Has to be a contender - all the best elements of being an angst-ridden 13 year old in screamo pushed through BM-inflected gothicism

Niki and the Dove’s ‘So Much It Hurts’ really is one of the big ones for me this year. It has that top layer of Stevie Nicks style romanticism but kind of brings it in to 2016. I remember the first time I heard this was on recommendation from Laura Snapes at a music conference I was at in February, and I’m still listening to it like I’m just discovering it.

Magical.

I really really loved the first single from Slow Club’s new album, listened to it over and over when it first came out. Equal parts soothing and gloomy. Video’s great too.

Is it bad that my track of the year is Arab Strap’s First Big Weekend of 2016, a song that is effectively 20 years old?

Silver medal goes to Pete, Bjorn and John’s “What You Talking About?”

For some reason I’ve not really got into the album, just love the song.
