First Concert? — Terrorvision at in/near Bude. At my place of work. And they were my favourite band. Absolute result!

Last Concert? — Slipknot, Jan 2020, Cardiff CIA. Absolutely banging

Next Concert? — The Dears in Bristol. One of the very few band both me and the wife love. Cannot wait

Best Concert? — Radiohead in Victoria Park in 2000 probably. Also Hope of the States in Bristol Louisiana just before the debut album came out was incredible

Worst Concert? — J Mascis in Motion/Marble Factory (never know which is which). He sat in a chair at the front of a tiny stage, Big Jeff stood right in front of him, blocking the view for 400 other people and didnt move dispite people’s appeal, so there was a mass exodus mid set. I did see J’s cap at ome point

Seen the Most? — Future of the Left would be double figures by now. The Twilight Sad and Idles wont be far off

Want to See? — ticking off a lot kf bucket kist bands this year - Slipknot, Rammstein, Nick Cave, FNM. Would like to see Pearl Jam and Beck at some point but all of the above have wiped out the funds to see both of them this year. Would also love to see Radiohead again but somewhere smallish but that will never happen

Got some big opinions on this. Man’s a fucking nuisance.

YES! We’re very much in the minority though

Absolutely no issue with him enjoying himself obviously but he could show just the tiniest bit of courtesy to anyone else around him. I’ve seen him knock people over, push people, ruin gigs for thousands of other paying customers.

It’s funny…I’ve never seen this guy; but after reading a Vice article about him I thought to myself…this guy seems like he’d be annoying as fuck :joy:

We out here

WHAT

I think I would have sold everything I own to see them if that happened. Christ.

First Concert? U2 at Wembley Stadium during Zoo TV tour. Supported by Stereo MCs and Utah Saints. Went with a couple of mates and got there at 9am in the morning. Managed to make it right to the front: was well worth the hanging around. Blew my tiny mind.
Last Concert? — Sleater-Kinney @ Brixton Academy last week. Was fine - went with low expectations as I didn’t enjoy the last album. Pleasantly surprised how good they were, although I think the loss of Janet Weiss is going to take some getting used to.
Next Concert? —Jon Hopkins @ Albert Hall
Best Concert? —So hard to name one, but will go with No Age @ Bussey Building in 2011. Just amazing energy, heat and noise. The crowd really felt part of it the whole time as they played on the floor in the round. No idea how the band and equipment weren’t crushed.
Worst Concert? — Seen some bad ones but the only one I really remember walking away from was Evan Dando supporting JAMC around 2009. He was on stage with just one electric guitarist (no drums!) - just really bad versions of Lemonheads songs that didn’t work at all. Think he was trying to capture a Nick McCabe/Richard Ashcroft doing The Verve songs on MTV vibe, but it just didn’t work. Had to beat a tactical retreat to protect my love of the songs.
Seen the Most? —Probably GY!BE, Shellac, or Sonic Youth (around 10 times+ each)
Want to See? —Tom Waits, Lana Del Rey, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Midnight Oil

The Welsh Club is what everyone seems to call Clwb Ifor Bach, there was a time you had to join and pretend you were an active user or supporter of the Welsh language. The reunion show was amazing, I had seen them a lot there going way back to their first album so nice to see it packed out.

I’ve been to gigs across the country and can honestly say that I find Glasgow crowds the most disrespectful. They pride themselves on being loud but they generally lack any kind of self-awareness whatsoever.

Dunno about you but I used to live in Aberdeen up until 2013 and there seems to be fewer decent gigs coming up to Aberdeen these days?

Yeah it’s really not great. Usually have to travel to Glasgow or Edinburgh if you want to see much decent. Cost of travel and accommodation keeps me from going to a lot of gigs, sadly

Edit: really not one for driving to Glasgow/Edinburgh and back on the same day/night. If I’m going to a gig I want to be able to enjoy it without the journey home being in the back of my head the whole time… also like to have a few jars while I’m at it

Oh man, could not agree more. Nail on the head. I’ve been to some gigs where everyone is up for it and has a good time, I’ve been to gigs where there’s pin drop silent respectful, but for the most part there’s some prick just chatting away, taking selfies, being drunk and aggressive. Sleater Kinney on Friday night some utter knob decides to shout “play a song!” at Carrie Brownstein in the middle of a speech on a subject extremely close to her heart, why was he even at a fucking Sleater Kinney gig of all places with an attitude like that?

Glasgow has a chip on it’s shoulder because they’re told at every gig by a touring band that it’s their favourite city to play or “you guys are crazy!”

fuckin ell. i’ve only been to a handful of Glasgow gigs but there were a load of pricks near the bar talking all the way through the first sold out Arab Strap reunion gig in the Barras as well. why did you go to the effort of logging on at 9 to get a ticket before it sold out if you’re just gonna stand at the bar shouting at your mate for the whole set? managed to move further into the crowd after a while where it was a lot quieter.

did Girl Band support at that Slint gig? was my first time seeing them at the Belfast date and i remember being pleasantly surprised that they’d bagged a lot of the UK dates as well

i’ve been living in Belfast for years but i’ve only in the last couple of years started to notice a characteristic of Belfast crowds, that they very often can’t be arsed standing there for 5 minutes cheering at length for an encore. the shouts tend to die away after about a minute and then it just gets awkwardly quiet until the band finally decide to slink back on. it’s definitely confused a few American bands and it made John Stanier quite annoyed

i’m not an anti-encore person really but i feel like you can’t really justifiably get annoyed at a crowd that know you’re coming back on and will just have a chat while they wait for you to show your face again rather than stand and indulge your ego for however long you’ve decided to leave it

Yes they did actually. Only time I’ve seen them but thought they were great. I remember the only words I could make out during the entire set were “Taxi driver!” brilliant.

I’m just imagining how that door policy would work…

Which FNM date are you going to?
