First Concert?
Lighthouse Family at the SECC. Was great for a young drummer to see a proper drummer, but by god if I had known what legacy it’d leave me with… my second concert was Chris Rea, thanks Dad.
Last Concert?
Local Natives and One True Pairing at Summerhall in Edinburgh. Was excellent.
Next Concert?
Incubus at the Academy in Glasgow
Best Concert?
Arcade Fire at Edinburgh Castle.
Worst Concert?
Black Keys at the SECC. Left after the third song. Was bought for me by my sister who was trying, at least.
Seen the Most?
Twilight Sad and Idlewild, tied, for nine.
Want to See?
Aphex Twin

First Concert? Some wee ones at dive venues in Edinburgh; then Glastonbury 2000; then Bob Dylan at the SECC.
Last Concert? Sorry at Sneaky Pete’s. It was good-not-great.
Next Concert? Bit of a mix next week - Randolph’s Leap at Sneaky Pete’s; Trail of Dead at The Mash House; Jon Hopkins at the Usher Hall. 3 in 4 days for the first time since I was studying!
Best Concert? Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at Hampden in 2013. It was 3.5 hours long, didn’t sag in the slightest and had too many brilliant moments to list. It also trumped Bruce at the O2 in 2007 which became my favourite gig despite not being a fan of him at that point.
Worst Concert? Cat Power at Renfrew Ferry on The Greatest tour. Fucking shit. Only gig I’ve left early out of choice. I was a pretty big fan at the time and stopped listening to her after this. Tom Brosseau was a good sport as support though - top banter with the crowd.
Seen the Most? Probably something Scottish that had their moment in the early 00s and still pop up at festivals/charity gigs/etc… Idlewild? Mull Historical Society? Aberfeldy? King Creosote? One of them.
Want to See? Fugazi.

First Concert — INXS on their Listen Like Thieves tour at the Royal Court, Liverpool on my 16th birthday.
The support was a young bald girl, armed with an acoustic guitar, leotard with tutu and a gigantic voice - Sinead O’connor.

Last Concert — Blanck Mass at the Pink Room @ Yes in Manchester. Reliably pummeling.

Next Concert — Jon Hopkins at the Bridgewater, Manchester

Best Concert — Up until last year it would have been either Pixies in 1990. Or LCD Soundsystem at Manchester Academy a couple of weeks before Sound Of Silver came out. Both bands and crowds were on fire at those gigs.
But then there was Aphex Twin at the Mayfield Depot last year. An incredible night. Maybe it is recency bias though. Will have to wait and see.

Worst Concert — there are quite a few of these over the years. I won’t include ones where I had no interest in the artist and was just accompanying a friend (dear lord, The Wildhearts…)
I’d probably go with either Animal Collective on the Centipede Hz tour. Or with My Computer (maybe at Night & Day, hmmm) where they were so drunk they played about 2 tracks and staggered off stage.
I dont have much patience for really rubbish gigs though. I’d prefer to leave early (3 tracks for lower dens is probably the earliest) rather than suffer for another hour or more.

Seen the Most — Pixies home and away too many times really. Even after they reformed they were still brilliant. Think I’m sated now though.

Want to See - Daft Punk.

NME Nu Rave Tour

Datarock, Shitdisco and Klaxons? They were mostly quite good if I recall. Utter shite made-up pseudo-genre though. I remember a journo asking all the bands at the time, “how does it feel to be part of the nu-rave scene?” and every one of them replied, “what’s that?”

Klaxons, CSS, New Young Pony Club… I feel like there was someone else too

Sunshine Underground

You must have had a different line-up to us in Aberdeen.

they were probably the best band on the bill too ha

First Concert? — Golden Earring supported by The Scene at the Ahoy Sports Arena in Rotterdam. It was part of a week-long series of music conference related shows. I really wanted to see Cheap Trick instead, but they were playing on a Wednesday night and my parents wouldn’t allow that, so I had to settle for this Saturday show instead.

Last Concert? — Moor Mother supported by Brother May at Cafe OTO. Camae Ayewa is an extremely versatile musician, and this show was focused on her rather extraordinary rap songs.

Next Concert? — A Winged Victory For The Sullen at the Round Chapel. Never been to this venue before.

Best Concert? — Low supported by Ida at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Boston. Happened to be in town just as they were playing a last minute show. No advance tickets so everyone had to queue and there was this nervous wait in the cold to see if you got in before it was sold out. A brilliant all-seated show in a magical old theatre.

Worst Concert? — The Vines at ULU. It was during a period when Craig Nicholls’ mental health problems were really bad and the show was just too awful to watch. Walked out after 20 mins.

Seen the Most? — Low (33x)

Want to See? — Shortparis. Missed them at Le Guess Who, and have heard lots of good things about them. They are due to play the Wide Awake festival in June.

First Concert? — Genesis @ NEC 1983
Last Concert? — Monster Magnet
Next Concert? — A Winged Victory For The Sullen, Manchester next Monday
Best Concert? — either Ned’s Atomic Dustbin @ Sheffield Boardwalk 2004 (was a huge fan back in the day but never got to see them) or Tool @ Manchester Arena 2006 (first time finally seeing my favourite band, it was emotional)
Worst Concert? — Editors (mate had a spare ticket, I was bored senseless)
Seen the Most? — Puressence (7 or 8 times, not a huge amount but I rarely see bands more than once or twice)
Want to See? — At The Drive-in around the time of RoC would have been great, think I’ve seen most bands I want to see (that still exist/tour). Edit: actually would love to see Tom Waits

I quite enjoyed that gig was at Manchester Academy 3 the other band was Datarock. Klaxons were easily the shittest band.

First Concert? — Capdown in Hitchin, 2000?
Last Concert? — JOHN in Bedford
Next Concert? — Kvelertak and Blood Command in Bristol
Best Concert? — Probably Refused in 2012 doing those comeback shows at the Forum, simply incredible. When they burst into Worms of Senses/Faculties of the Skull the place was electric, just…argh! Incredible.
Worst Concert? — (Festival) - one that sticks out is The Growlers at Green Man last year. Genuinely unpleasant, boring and shite pub rock (and that’s being nice to pub rock). Felt like it would NEVER end. (Gig): Slaves supporting Foo Fighters, (not my choice) - thought they were so fake, couple of bullshitters with no songs and irritating to fuck. Cunts to the highest degree.
Seen the Most? — Probably The Bronx? Double figures by now. Oh, and Lightyear. @TheWarn @Bamos
Want to See? — American Nightmare

First Concert? — Carter USM at the Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, 1994. The fire alarm went off and we all had to mill about outside with Jimbob, Fruitbat and Wez for 20 minutes before we could go back in.
Last Concert? — Joe Armon-Jones, Drygate, Glasgow, 2 weeks ago.
Next Concert? — Nothing planned yet
Best Concert? — Tie between Carter USM’s first “final concert ever” at Brixton Academy in 2007 and their last “final concert ever” there in 2014 and seeing Ezra Collective at Green Man last year which was by far the nicest gig I’ve ever been to. Amazing positivity from tent wall to tent wall.
Worst Concert? — I was given free tickets to a Holsten Pils “Indie Party” at the Barrowlands in 1995 where Pop Will Eat Itself were allegedly on the bill. In the end it was just Gary Clark from Danny Wilson and his new KIng L project and Danny Wilson / Deacon Blue “supergroup” Swiss Family Orbison. At the end, Clark came on and did an acoustic version of Mary’s Prayer to about three people.
Seen the Most? — Don’t really count, but it’s bound to be James Yorkston either with or without the Athletes and Thorne and Khan.
Want to See? — Ashley Henry

I saw INXS on the Kick tour and Sinead was the support then too (with band, including a Smith or 2)

Hearing Troy live and so raw was an experience

I was at that Brudenell show! First two bands were amazing, but I felt too ill to stay for Fucked Up. :frowning:

First concert - Misty in Roots at the Lyceum in London in (I think) 1985ish

Last concert- Low at the Brudenell on Leeds in the last tour

Next concert - Richard Dawson at the Sage in Gateshead next month

Best concert - hard to decide, but between The White Stripes on the White Blood Cells tour in 2001 at the Point in Oxford (a tiny venue), REM on the Green tour in 1988 or 9 in Newcastle, Happy Mondays just after the Madchester ep at Leeds Poly, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in the Let Love in Tour or either of the two times I saw Jeff Buckley

Worst concert - definitely The Sleepy Jackson at The Zodiac in Oxford, the only gig I’ve ever walked out of. It was like the ‘Jazz Odyssey’ sequence in Spinal Tap.

Seen the most - probably Mark Eitzel if we include solo gigs and gigs with American Music Club

Want to see - Kraftwerk, Kamasi Washington, Lana Del Rey

First Concert— The Pogues at the Barras 1990

Last Concert— Slipknot at the O2 last month

Next Concert— A Winged Victory for the Sullen in some church tomorrow.

Best Concert— Way too hard to pick but for today maybe The Beastie Boys at the Astoria 1994. Or the Fugazi Forum gigs at the end of their last tour.

Worst Concert— Live at the Brixton Academy maybe in 1999. Absolute shite.

Seen the Most— probably Mogwai

Want to See - No idea, my bucket list is pretty much complete. Would be happy to see Neil Young again as it’s been a while.

Just checked and it seems to have been almost 5 years since his last show. Thought he was still popping up here and there. :anguished: Glad he got to head out and tour again but it’ll be a shame if that’s him retired for good now.

First Concert? — Manic Street Preachers @ the SECC in Glasgow, touring This Is My Truth… and supported by Catatonia. We were in the seats so pretty far away, but it was brilliant all the same
Last Concert? — Sleater-Kinney @ Brixton Academy last night, along with half of DiS apparently
Next Concert? — Big|Brave @ Electrowerkz (ugh) in April, although will probably go to a few things between now and then
Best Concert? — how many answers are we allowed here? Nils Frahm at the Roundhouse in 2015 stands out for sentimental reasons as it was the first gig I went to with the TV, and was absoultely stunning
Worst Concert? — I love them, but The Roots at Brixton a few years ago was properly shocking. I think they’d played about 3 recognisable parts of songs in about 45 minutes of interminable fannying about. Think it’s the earliest I’ve ever left a gig.
Seen the Most? — one of 65daysofstatic, Manics or Mogwai, I’m in double figures for each
Want to See? — Yo La Tengo, Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Kraftwerk
