so indie. ooh look at me i prefer the zelda game that doesn’t even have zelda or the triforce in it.

I find it hard to remember how much I loved Ocarina back when I played it, 5 years after it came out. I’d played lots of PS2 games by then but it was still pretty bloody great. So I get why people love it so much.

68 hours into BOTW and suspect it may go top. Otherwise my list is:

Wind Waker HD < Ocarina of Time < Skyward Sword < Twilight Princess

Not played the others…

I guess the real question is

  • Link: The Faces Of Evil
  • Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon

This is why Link doeesn’t talk btw

What is pretty amazing about this series is that I’ve listened to various podcasts, read multiple lists, seen a lot of posts about this series and there in no consensus on this matter. That’s pretty nuts. And admirable that they try and reinvent it every so often.

Can see why OoT would top a lot of lists for nostalgia’s sake, and can see why as a kid someone would be completely enamoured for something as expansive and detailed as it was for the time. But as someone who played it through for the first time maybe only 7 years ago it never really wowed me. Can see how it refined the mechanics of adventure games and that generations games in general tremendously, but would feel like saying Toy Story’s the best kids film ever for the same reasons (which - like OoT - is probably close but no cigar imho).

picked the only one i’ve played

fun fact: we actually learned the ocarina at my primary school (not because of the game. or maybe it was)

It’s just a very well made game. Everything about it is good. The story is good. The temples in the adult world are very well made. The characters are good. Even the soundtrack is good. It’s more like a film than a game.

Probably my favourite game of ever, although I’m not really a massive gamer. I don’t know what all the ‘best’ games are considered to be (or the indie equivalent). I only had a GameCube (my copy of OoT came free as a bonus disc with The Wind Waker), never had a Playstation/Xbox console or even a N64.

OOT and Majora’s Mask both play much better on the 3DS than the N64 to me. Fire up that lovely old console and you’ll be surprised how badly the look has aged. Hence why I think A Link to the Past gets much acclaim due to its graphical simplicity.

Only ever played Wind Waker. Got bored shitless after twenty hours rowing around in circles and never played another one.

zelda is one of my favourite things on earth and i hated wind waker. just wasn’t zelda and yeah the endless sailing and the last act were so repetitive. pls play ocarina of time at some point in your lifetime.

Links awakening

Pretty sure the Gamecube Wind Waker I have came with a remaster of Ocarina of Time but I’ve never even booted it up. Maybe I’ll give it a go one wet weekend.

not played em, can’t really be arsed with the side games

this time i voted for the one that would annoy you the most

Spirit Tracks > Phantom Hourglass.

Reasoning: Trains > Boats.
