Sparked by the “shit chorus” thread, I stuck this on and realised - there’s no chorus? It’s a big hit single and the chorus is basically a falsetto “eeeeeEEEEeee”
Obviously plenty of genres never have a chorus at all, but interesting to hear the tracks where you’d expect one and then they just don’t bother
Seven Nation Army’s ‘chorus’ is just the guitar riff
I remember somebody pointed out that [big song] doesn’t actually have a chorus and I was like oh yeah, you’re right!
Would be great if I could remember what [big song] is now.
When you do, please contribute it to this [bigsong] thread
I think @funkhouser just posted it actually!
I remember now - It was the Song Exploder episode on Netflix that covered losing my religion, where they point out that the song doesn’t have a chorus.
I always thought of “I thought that I heard you laughing” onwards as the chorus
I think of it more like a refrain, aside from the fact that it repeats words it doesn’t really have any of the hallmarks of a chorus IMO.
If we’re going on the logic of the OP on what is or isn’t a chorus, then I submit this all-time classic for your consideration
The past is a grotesque animal is the correct answer here
