Bits of films that break the suspension of disbelief

remember when parkour was in every film ever for a bit? and when the hero chased the parkour villain we were all, just fucking shoot the prancing cunt while he backflips up that fire escape.

they still make iPod touch, nano and shuffle

In perks of being a wallflower when none of them can identify Bowie’s heroes.

Can’t imagine the simpsons “wait, the cops knew internal affairs
?” quote was ever more appropriate than when i saw skyfall.

it’s weird, though: I didn’t feel like the villain getting captured thing was anything but a clichĂ© when The Dark Knight did it. I don’t have examples to hand, though, I just feel like it’s not a big deal to use this idea and really it’s more about whether your film had a good enough pace to deal with it e.g. Avengers, which is hard not to enjoy massively. Skyfall had the usual slump there (usual for a Bond film - they tend to be very uneven) but I forgave it for having a really fun final sequence in Scotland.

i was really swept up in the carnage and spectacle of tdk initially so i didn’t really start thinking about the plot mechanics until 3rd viewing. i think the getting captured thing is okayish, it’s the whole, convoluted, the joker knew bruce wayne would be in the apartment at that exact moment so the snipers would fire in sync with the honour guard and he could shoot the mayor, but gordon knew the joker would attempt that so he meant to pretend to be dead so the joker could attack the motorcade and be drawn into the open, but ah, the joker meant to get captured so he could kill the triad guy, and also he maybe knew dent wasn’t batman so he had his goons kidnap them both.

audience reaction goes:

The princesses’ accents in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

I keep meaning to read Long Halloween to see how much is in it and maybe is fleshed out more. I don’t mind this sort of plot mechanic though.

I’m glad we have agreed that it is an awful plot contrivance with nothing to justify it
