Only heard one song so far, music was decent, vocals were a bit annoying, overall sounded like plenty of other stuff so not sure why some people are shitting themselves so much with excitement over them but I’ll check the album out when it comes out

Seems like a pretentious reason not to like a band. Where did Radiohead - this forum’s favourite band - meet each other?

Please provide me with the names of the other bands doing it better

Can’t stand the posh lad’s vocals/lyrics. Bad.

“I told you I loved you in front of black midi”

good lyric imho

 :joy:

Love Black Midi. Like what I’ve heard of these folks so far. Optimistic.

Always feel a bit disappointed when start seeing ‘poshos’ being tossed around as a weapon to skewer someone’s creativity.

But then I’M an ex-public schooler so by extension my opinions don’t count either, right?

that could have been the reactions of the person he said it to, that’s true

That person speaks the truth.

still wish the album had been more like this

Black Midi < Black Country, New Road < Blanck Mass

Black Midi don’t even play Black Midi (genre) music.
They need to follow the Metallica and Blues Explosion format tbh

I haven’t said I dislike Black Midi or Black Country, New Road.

You can go to ArcTanGent and see about 20 similar bands. You can argue all you want that these bands are where they are purely on merit, I just think it’s a bit disingenuous to discount the fact that they’ve inherently had greater opportunities to succeed because of their privilege.

I’m a bit wary of that when I think that an artist is only getting where they are because of their privilege, or when they’re trying to come across as/cash in on being working class types when they’re not. Not sure either apply to BC,NR.

Blues Explosion are punk though surely?

No you can’t? 90% of the bands at arctangent who do a similar thing are instrumental, much less song lead and often still reliant on the quiet/loud/quiet formula, and don’t pack anywhere near as many ideas into songs. Unless there are a load of bands that I’ve missed?

Bluestinged rock surely.
And blues is where rock sprang from.

Basically my point is Black Midi (band) aren’t even close to Black Midi the genre.

It’d be like me starting a band called Peruvian Pan Pipe Music and then exclusively playing dubstep.
(I’m only messing around anyway, couldn’t give a shite really)

Are BCNR even from the Black Country in England.

Yeah, largely agree with that. Generally pretending to be something you’re not as a way of dressing up in some sort of authenticity is pretty disrespectful.
