You’re thinking of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep

Would kind of dig something along those lines but I don’t trust Ridley Scott with it. Kinda hoping alien covenant proves me wrong. Trailer in a couple of days btw :ok_hand:

They’re obviously different people.

Definitely we’re not alone

I also find Marky Mark and Matt Damon hard to tell apart

Original theatrical release.

(cue lots of anger and shouting.)

Totally torn on this. Blade Runner is my all time favourite film. Definitely don’t want there to be a sequel but so be it and I really liked Prisoners and Sicario and Arrival so have a bit of hope that it might not be shite.

I think the bits of Gosling walking through the desert and into the old police station look great, the scene in Deckard’s house looks cool, but the shots in the city just remind me of Tron Legacy, which I did actually enjoy it’s just… the sets were a big part of why the original Blade Runner was amazing to me, the detail in the buildings and the matte paintings, it all looked incredible and still hasn’t aged to me. Suppose CGI is just inevitable these days though isn’t it?

In the final cut they’ve changed the “I want more life, fucker!” to “I want more life, Father!” and it’s so, so cringeworthy.

Therefore, @marckee is correct, the 1992 Directors Cut is the one.

So the answer is that every version is horribly flawed?

If you’re watching for the first time, though, the changes from 1992 mentioned here (& in general) aren’t going to matter much, whereas the changes for continuity and SFX will help a lot with the first impression so I still say Final Cut.

All of this is why I’ve never bothered, but I trust you Theo. I’ll track it down (maybe) (deckard is a replicant) (etc)

I think it’s an excellent looking film with a cool philosophy but the more I’ve watched it the more I’ve felt it’s only 4/5 at best. The novel is a decent read too.

It is. Harrison Ford sounds incredibly bored doing it.

Eh… aye, I suppose so. You’re probably right in that there’s no perfect version but there’s definitely better or preferred versions. And at the end of the day, we still love it.

Some people really love the voice over. I actually think the ending of that version, a weird nonsensical off-cut from the opening of the Shining, and the knowledge that it wasn’t the film Scott wanted is what puts people against it. The VO is only really as bad as voice overs pretty much always are. People who like the full ‘noir’ experience seem to be fans of it.

I think what people don’t like about the original ending is that it pulls some last-minute nonsense that contradicts the rest of the film just to get a happier ending

Same. The Enemy was good too.

Can you spoilerise polls? Let’s find out!

Deckard is:

  • a replicant - I have watched and understood this film

  • a human - I have watched and misinterpreted all of the nuance and subtlety of this film

  • either - I deride great pleasure from this film’s many ambiguities

FFS it spoilered them in the preview before I posted it! Needless to say, anybody in this thread who hasn’t seen the original should not be posting in here.

So I’ve heard, need to get it seen.

Deride? IDIOT DICKHEAD.
